Why Marco Rubio has a real shot at 2016 Republican nomination (More about Cruz & Paul)
Fox News ^ | April 13, 2015 | Erick Erickson

Ted Cruz remains a conservative favorite in 2016. In 2012, the establishment backed his Senate opponent in Texas, then Lt. Governor David Dewhurst. The conservative grassroots backed Cruz and pushed him over the finish line. Cruz has since remained a favorite of the grassroots with a continually antagonist relationship with the Republican establishment.

In 2010, Rand Paul, before Cruz, was a grassroots favorite. The Republican Establishment backed his rival, Trey Grayson. Paul rallied a coalition of conservative grassroots and Ron Paul acolytes to trounce Grayson and win the Kentucky Senate seat. Since then, Paul has wobbled between maintaining grassroots support and developing establishment support. In 2014, for example, he backed Mitch McConnell for re-election and has taken an occasional aggressive position to contrast himself from Cruz.

Marco Rubio is the original Tea Party candidate. His candidacy united the grassroots against the leadership and he won. The Washington crowd convinced themselves he could not win, but the grassroots proved they could pick a winner. Rubio was the first.

In the same year Rand Paul won, the man who started the major revolt between grassroots activists and party leaders ran. It was the Rubio race that really exposed the divide between the base and the leadership. The leadership backed then Florida Governor Charlie Crist. The grassroots, led by former Senator Jim DeMint of South Carolina, allied with Marco Rubio. Activists began urging a boycott of the National Republican Senatorial Committee, the Washington group that helps the GOP take the Senate....

Senator Cruz is surely better than others. But even he will allow most illegals to stay in the country. Once the illegals become legal residents, any future president and congress can award them path to citizenship. I want them all gone back to their country of origin and wait in line behind those applying for green cards legally. Anything else is a form of amnesty.

If all illegals were sent back, future illegal immigration will be discouraged. By giving them path to legal residency, will encourage more illegals to arrive.

Keep in mind a 100 foot tall electrified fence from end to end on the southern border will not stop people coming on tourist and student visa’s and never leaving. That is almost half of the illegal community.

What you envision is politically and culturally undoable in 2015 by any candidate that you or I can imagine.

I’m pretty dam smart but I’m willing to concede that many people are smarter than I am, sometimes much smarter — for example, Ted Cruz. It’s also clear from his record that Ted Cruz is smarter than almost everyone else in politics, government and the media.

Ted Cruz graduated with honors from Princeton and the Harvard Law School, one of whose most distinguished professors, Alan Dershowitz, has gone on record to say that Ted Cruz was one of the most brilliant students he ever taught.

Senator Cruz also served as a Supreme Court clerk; came from far behind in the polls to win his Texas Senate seat; and in a matter of little more than a year in Washington has become a front runner for the Republican 2016 presidential nomination, picking up the most coveted Conservative endorsement — Sarah Palin’s — along the way.

Ted Cruz is an expert at winning, and if he thinks he can win the presidency in 2016, who are the rest of us relative mediocrities to disagree with him? [chuckle] After eight years of President Obama, only a towering genius will be able to undo the damage. And Ted Cruz is the only candidate who even remotely qualifies. Rand Paul, his principal opponent, is a mediocre product of nepotism; he inherited his father’s supporters.

Do we want a better country or not?

[Do we want a better country or not?]

TED CRUZ has that Presidential look about him with the gravitas to look Putin in the eye and not flinch. We will never see CRUZ bow in submission to ANY leader.

The first time I saw CRUZ in action was during the Obamacare-a-thon on C-Span. He did not have notes. It was amazing! CRUZ spoke off the cuff for HOURS on end! The MSM only commented on the bedtime story he read his kids. HA!

He is a winner - that’s for sure.

[that Rubio advance man who has been posting here.]

You could tell he came from D.C. Only an operative would begin his debut on FR with name calling.

I see that the Economist say that Cruz hyperventilates. But the Brits never watch what goes on beyond the Mountains. Anyone who saw Cruz debate Dewhurst saw a man who could argue in any English Courtroom and convince.

My views are similar to your darling granddaughter

Anyone knows me here knows I have a kinship and blood connection to conservative South Americans and Cubans and an affinity for their international capital Miami

Even though I have questions on Rubio I can’t dislike him....he has that “it” factor

Cruz....Walker....Rand/Rubio tie

That’s my order

We’ve never had this many decent choices ....not in my lifetime....even though it all feels like a band aid in the face of the coming demographic winter

U think?

I just fear though we’re dividing up for GOPe Little Lord Jebleroy

Hey there, wardaddy! So GOOD to see you!!

You’ve always stayed young at heart, so I’m not at all surprised that you’re basically on the same page with my granddaughter. I’ve sort of radicalized all of mine and this one gets to vote. She thinks Scott Walker is a likeable guy, but too meek for the fight.

She noted that Rubio must stop walking with his head down when he enters a stage.

You’re right, In our life time, we’ve never been treated to such an array of great candidates and unfortunately it’s still about money, so we must decide on a maximum of two, and dispense with Jeb right away.

God bless Cruz, he has that big money backer and he’s already raised in excess of $31 million!

Joke post?
Marco Rubio is articulate and a Christian so “we fools” should vote for him? And Ted Cruz is not? Tell me, how many national debating championships has Marco Rubio won? And how many oral cases has he argued let alone won before the US Supreme Court?

The reason I state this is the global agenda for this country is to open our borders in Canada and New Mexico for one single trading block.

....good point, the N American Partnership crap has been worked on by OneWorlders since Bush Sr. with conferences and under the radar bureaucrats writing regs and getting ready for the Amero when they destroy the dollar... they plan the long game.

ymmv

Because faux is afraid of Cruz?

Only some of them - Fox is probably the only one that actually has some folks who like Cruz and who are allowed to let on that it is the case. Funny how we notice that our best choice of anything has some sort of a flaw so we immediately set out to ridicule and diminish it - no wonder we keep losing.

He is a lightweight but if Jeb does not make it ole Rubio is the next in line, can’t have upstart Cruz make it the unwashed masses like him,He has only outdone the rest of the pretenders with 31 million raised.
Rubio another phony with the teleprompter, can’t stand before the people and look them in the eye,too self conscious,I will take Ted Cruz!

Who is the fool? Rubio deserted the faction who put him in office, then welched on amnesty.

Fool me once . . .

You are probably correct. To deport all illegals may not be possible for various reasons. If that is true, why are posters picking on various candidates as amnesty candidates?

They are ALL amnesty candidates in one form or another. I want a fair minded discussion and not shoot from the hip accusations which are essentially childish and wrong.
