Several years ago, Sen. Marco Rubio was the face of the so-called pro-amnesty faction of the Republican Party a subset of the party who believe in a pathway to citizenship for people currently in the U.S. illegally. That position helped catapult him to media prominence but has become something of a liability for him as he attempts to court staunch conservatives during his 2016 presidential run.
During his speech earlier this year at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), Rubio effectively walked back his previous amnesty support by telling the crowd that before a pathway reform can be negotiated, the U.S.-Mexico border must be strengthened and the current legal system of immigration must be enforced harder.
On Tuesday afternoon, CNNs Jake Tapper grilled the senator on his changing positions, pointedly asking him: Do you still believe in amnesty?
And the presidential candidate reiterated his CPAC comments, mainly that current law must be enforced.
Watch the rest of his comments below, via CNN:

Rubio lied to get elected, lied about what was in his Gang’s bill, and is lying now. If he was elected, he’d turn on the citizens again.
Rubio is a fine young man. He ,unfortunately, is an amnesty loving , upchuck Schumer back slapping POC. He has turned beggingly contrite ,all of a sudden. But when you rob a bank, you don’t bring the money back and say “Sorry!!”. Rubio is finished with constitutional conservatives. Sorry Marco. You are out.
Well said.
Scott Walker is trying the same verbal gymnastics to escape his amnesty-suppprting views. Or, at least hide them until he or Jeb gets the nomination.
The real question by Tapper should have been, “why ALL republicans candidates are for some form of amnesty?”.
Because NONE of the candidates have declared they will deport all law breakers. All candidates will allow MOST illegals to stay. So they are ALL for some form of Amnesty. So it is hypocritical on democrat scale to single out any candidate for being pro-amnesty.
In George Bush’s words “you are either with us or against us”.
The first candidate who comes out with deporting every law breaker, will get a sizable campaign donation from me, and will move to the top of my preference list immediately.
You can’t have partial amnesty, like you can’t have partial pregnancy.
Marco! Rubio!
With Marco's history of lying to us and telling the Univision audience what he really feels, the question Tapper should be asking is "What exactly are you saying to your hispanic audiences?"
Rubio is a lying, backstabbing traitor.
Face it folks. It’s Cruz or Lose.
I can agree Rubio is lying. But so is every one else when they claim to be against amnesty, because every one, including Walker, Cruz, Paul, Bush, Huckabee, Fiorina, Trump, Pence, etc will NOT deport MAJORITY of law breaking illegals.
yUP, Walker is also a Chamber pro-amnesty flip flopper
I love your tag line!
Sorry but the ‘no one else will deport’ defense is no excuse for Marco’s serial lying. He’s lying now if he says enforcement first. The minute he gets anywhere near having a say, he will open the flood gates and enforcement will go right out the window. Only JEB! is even close to being as big an amnesty lover and at least he admits it. The backstabbing RINO Rubio keeps thinking he can fool conservatives into believing his lies.
Only the naive, the delusional, RINOs, the GOPe and their paid help go along with Marco.
A “fine young man” wouldn’t even show up to speak for a group whose express purpose for existing was to advance “The Golden race.”
The man said one thing when addressing groups like La Raza and another thing when addressing English speaking audiences from the start. He had to be lying to somebody. It became pretty clear to whom.
Amnesty.
Yes, amnesty is amnesty. I will NEVER vote for a ticket with Rubio. He might as well join his parents I returning to Cuba.
I do not recall trying to defend senator Rubio. Stating facts on amnesty situation for all candidates is neither defending or attacking any candidates. There are other issues I do not like about the senator. I just can not see singling out the senator on amnesty issue when every other candidate is for amnesty to majority of illegals.
I take it you’re not voting next year.
Yes I am voting, just not sure who. But You can bet your life I will vote AGAINST Hillary.
