Cruz, in Rindge, laughs off Paul's criticism

RINDGE - Republican presidential candidate Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas laughed off Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul's "capitulating Canadian" tag after a gathering at Franklin Pierce University Friday night. The new ad by the America Liberty PAC spins the U.S. Senate's upcoming session tonight for a vote on the USA Freedom Act as "the biggest brawl for liberty, of the century."The Kentucky senator is plugged as "The Defender of Freedom, Senator Rand Paul." The Texas senator is pegged as one of many "so-called-conservative accomplices" to President Barack Obama's assault on privacy rights as the "capitulating Canadian."

"Well, I have say, I chuckled, I'd never seen myself portrayed as a big world wrestling federation person even though I guess it was one that was not supposed to win," Cruz said during a brief meeting with the press after the town hall. "In politics, people choose to throw rocks and go to the mat. My consistent pattern is I have no intention to reciprocating. I like Rand Paul. He's a friend of mine. He's been a fantastic voice for liberty. And I've been pleased to stand with him and fight side by side many, many times, and I expect to continue fighting side by side with Paul for a long time." Cruz said he is a co-sponsor of the original USA Freedom Act and hopes it passes the Senate tonight or later in the week. The bipartisan legislation would end the bulk collection of phone records by the government, he said." I think that's the right thing to do. I think under the Fourth Amendment, the federal government should not be randomly and indiscriminately collecting people's phone records," Cruz said. At the same time, the USA Freedom Act leaves law enforcement and national security "the tools" needed when there is evidence to believe someone is contacting Islamic terrorists, he said. "It's unreasonable to search or seize every law abiding citizen's records," Cruz said. "It is not only reasonable - it is consistent with the Bill of Rights - for national security to have the tools to stop radical Islamist terrorists before they carry out horrific acts." Cruz added he opposes his Republican colleagues who are pushing to reauthorize the Patriot Act. "It doesn't have to be an either/or. It doesn't have to be big brother or no law enforcement or national security tools. We can do both."

Abiding by Reagan Rule #1, good job Mr. Cruz.

People like Rand Paul should work harder at getting control of our borders and immigration to diminish the perceived necessity of spying among Americans.

After all, we’re “legally” importing muslims and God knows what is coming across the border unannounced. It creates and bolsters the justifications for the patriot act.

And growing in stature all the time! He’s going to let Sen. Paul make himself look puny and pusillanimous. Way to go, Sen. Cruz!

This must be Paul’s style of warfare. Recall a few years ago, when Rand Paul kept bothering Chris Christie about having a get together, knowing Christies didn’t want to be bothered with either Rand or his nutty father. Yet the invitations continued for months. Paul may be a great eye doctor, but as a communicator, he is silly and wasteful at times.

Way over the top, especially considering he was called a Canadian.

Shows right there that Cruz is in fact a Libertarian (States are “laboratories of democracy”).

Didn’t take long for the pressure cooker of a presidential campaign to reveal that.

Some people still won’t want to believe it.

Ron, his loony dad, pushed racism through his newsletter, all the time denying he knew anything about it; the plausible denial scam doesn't work for his kid, either.

Cruz is a classy guy. He has classy supporters.

You nailed it and folks need to remember that. I had the unfortunate experience of meeting with some of Ron’s money people. I had no idea at the time just how sleazy they were till then. Hate Blacks, Hispanics, Jews, Catholics...you name it. I left....and went home to take a bath.

Now we have Ron Paul’s little boy and its the same thing all over again. And Paul will do his best(with the help of his followers) to destroy Cruz and Rubio for that matter.

I wont ever back down from going after this scum.

Rand Paul has totally trashed Reagan’s Eleventh Commandment (”Thou shalt not speak ill of thy fellow Republican”).

He is a loose cannon careening about the deck of a storm-tossed ship.

Just like Ronald Reagan would have handled it, Ted Cruz laughed it off.

Sounds more like in that case Rand Paul was stalking Chris Cristy.

Sounds more like Ron Paul and Rand Paul are white supremist.

The K.K.K. or the Aryan Nation can go to hell.

There is no room for racial supremist among conservatives or Christians.
