It’s not done so much for cost as much as it is done to have a pliant workforce. Cost just gets it across the threshold.

> “Cruz hasn’t seen much less raised this populist policy: “the next president and the next Congress need to make decisions about a legal immigration system that’s based on, first and foremost, on protecting American workers and American wages”. “

In 1980 the American auto unions were saying the same thing you are saying above.

Their work product, their laziness and greed had turned the American auto industry into a laughing stock.

FORD was known back then as “Fix Or Repair Daily”.

The cars and their quality were awful. And there was no motivation, no incentive for auto plants to be competitive because of ‘Protectionism’.

In other industries as well, there were monopolies that stifled innovation like the monopoly known as “Ma Bell”. And their dominance was kept in place due to “Protectionism”.

Once protectionism was lifted from American industries, innovators and entrepreneurs raised the quality and competitiveness of the previous American industries to a level that they once again dominated many global markets. It took a long time to reverse the rot that had set in to previously protected industries.

Today there is a huge demand for American natural gas (NG) to be exported as LNG. There is an enormous surplus of NG in the USA. The excess is now burned in flares and wasted. The Europeans are on their hands and knees begging for it so that they don’t have to crawl to Putin for an energy deal. Asian countries also are begging for America to export LNG to them. But the FTC won’t grant export licenses. Exporting LNG would create millions of secure high paying jobs but Obama won’t allow it.

There are so many innovations and new technologies available to grow new industries on American soil that would result in creating millions of jobs. Technologies such as 3D Print Manufacturing, inherently safe nuclear reactors (http://www.world-nuclear.org/info/Nuclear-Fuel-Cycle/Power-Reactors/Advanced-Nuclear-Power-Reactors), etc.

The answer is never ‘labor protectionism’. The answer is to remove Obama and elect a true conservative that will redirect policies to get American industries and innovation growing again.

There are a few trade policies that make sense and they don’t focus directly on workers but they benefit workers by benefiting the industries they work in but not through “Protectionism”. They do not seek to ‘protect’ industries but instead seek to level the playing field for competition.

Policies that seek to level the playing field so that competition can thrive are far superior to “protectionist” policies. One example is to protect American industries that are vulnerable to foreign ‘dumping’ that is purposefully done to destroy the American industrial base. A specific example is the resurgent American crude production due in large part to American hydraulic fracturing technology or fracking. The average cost to pump a barrel of crude in the Bakken is $35. The average cost to do the same in Saudi Arabia is about $7. The Saudis can dump their crude at low prices into American markets and cause the emergent American crude production to shut down which has been what’s happening. The right policy is in this case to impose a tariff on imports that fall below an industry average because of natural resource imbalances, not because of wage imbalances that lead to worker exploitation. In this case Americans can live well on $35 oil and they can work in secure jobs with a bright future on $35 oil. But will Obama allow this development of the oil sector to prosper by leveling the playing field? No, he won’t and neither will Hillary unless her network controls it and shares in a back room way in its profits.

Future policies should be based on “Playing Field” policies, not on “Protectionist” policies. The two categories are not the same because “Playing Field” pertains to global competition rules whereas “Protectionist” pertains to local non-competitive rules.

Yes, he has stated directly that his goal is to allow for retaining and recruiting top scientific talent. That does not include ‘workers’. Ted Cruz is not going to allow the ‘Cheap Labor Express’ to continue.

When he comes to a town hall near you (and he will), then be sure to express your concerns.

Has Cruz said he'll reorient the H1B program with strict directives and criteria for who is eligible?

he has stated directly that his goal is to allow for retaining and recruiting top scientific talent.

That doesn't imply strict directives and criteria - H-1B already "allows for" top talent ALONG WITH indentured drne serfs.

H-1B is labor dumping.

I agree with everything you wrote but I would make one simple word change:

Such programs policies need to die, since they do not deliver as described.

Then I would go further and push to have the law amended so that 'policies' that allow for the present H1B abuses are prohibited. That way there will be some assurance that a future president can't reinstate the abusive policies.

Through policy directives Cruz can change the present policy to prohibit H1B abuses on Day One of occupying the Oval Office. Then he can propose an amendment to immigration law that the H1B program is never to be used again in the abusive manner that presently exists.

Agree but reforms to H1B can put a stop to labor dumping.

“Probably because the H1B program helps America.”

How, specifically, does it help Americans who lose their jobs to H-1Bs? We have millions of Americans out of work and you think bringing in foreign workers is good for them?

Whoever becomes president CAN do any number of things to fix the H-1B mess - a candidate who explicitly and specifically states that he WILL do those things will have my support.

Thank you for the clearest explanation of H1B that I’ve seen or heard.
It cleared up for me questions that others had talked around.

I ain’t the sharpest tool in the shed, but I keep reading and listening.

With the H1b program some Americans either lose their jobs or don’t get jobs.

Without the H1b program many companies lay off almost all of their American workers and move overseas.

Which would you prefer?

Third choice :
Eliminate H1B lottery and allocate them based on salary alone.

Dont’ bother with the trolls. Their agenda is to poison Cruz at all costs.

Jeb/Trump/Rand and the Liberals are out in force to destroy Ted.
