Suddenly, a Georgia church has become the site of a serious tug-of-war for evangelical voters between Republican presidential candidates Ted Cruz and Mike Huckabee.
On Sunday evening, both candidates will appear at Rock Springs Church in Milner, Ga., pastored by the Rev. Benny Tate, one of Georgias higher-profile Southern Baptist preachers.
Cruz was already on our radar as an attendee at the 5 p.m. event. The Huckabee campaign announced this afternoon that the former governor of Arkansas would make the event as well.
The July 5 event, an Independence Day picnic, also features Jep Robertson of Duck Dynasty, and music by the Charlie Daniels Band....

Cruz to be at Eagle Eye bookstore 3pm today, N Decatur Rd & Clairmont, Decatur Ga.
Other than the emails of a Scott Walker activist, there has been zero publicity. If Cruz or any conservative wants to win they have to do a much better job of organizing.
One wonders if any of these 18 (or their staffs) really want to win as they seem to be doing zero to get in touch with the base.
I’m in the McDonalds accross from the bookstore right now. We’ll see how many show up. When Hilary has a half empty room we laugh. When it is one of our own I worry.
Lord. Come on Cruz!
Huckabee is a crafty old climber, who can play the little old ladies like a violin.
VET! Cruz needs to send in Raoul to charm their socks off. :)
I agree. On Cruz email list. Heard zip. Not good.
The sole purpose of Huckabee in this race is to take away votes from Cruz and split the evangelical vote. I despise that retread, if Cruz dosen’t make it to the FOX News debate because of this clown I’m going to be pissed.
Huck needs to just give it up. His time is past if it ever was.
Huck is literally a never was.
I hope Huckabee does the right thing and throws his voters to Cruz.
Agreed.
Milner. Milner is nothing. What’s there? I go through there on the way to Warner Robins and I’ve still never heard of it. LOL
“The sole purpose of Huckabee in this race is to take away votes from Cruz and split the evangelical vote.”
My FIRST choice is Ted Cruz. I hope he wins the primary. However, I have no problem with Mike Huckabee as my second choice after Ted.
What you write about Huckabee is an “untruth” and not remotely factual (I don’t say “lie” because I think you believe what you wrote). Huckabee is in the contest to win just as Cruz is. I think both men are honorable and sincere Christian conservatives. Both have “pure” motives for running. Contrary to the rhetoric here on FR, Huckabee is NOT a dark horse to take votes away from Cruz.
Like I said though, I think Ted Cruz is the better choice for me. However, I’m not going to foolishly disparage others.
I truly believe that if Huckabee doesn’t do as well as Cruz in the early primaries, he WILL ask his base to support Cruz. I would hope that if the roles were reversed that Cruz would likewise back Huckabee.
Personnally, I would like to see a Cruz/Huckabee ticket (or possibly the reverse). Both FULLY meet my PRIME criteria that any GOP candidate that will get my support MUST be a SOCIAL/MORAL CONSERVATIVE first. Both men are.
Again though, I think that Ted is the better choice of the two men, but I will not pit them against each other.
