Cruz was actually doing quite well....conservatives were cheering him on....he seemed to have some steam going, saying and doing the right things......a real champion.
But a dumb move deflated his chances.....he made a big deal of meeting w/ Trump. Who knows why? Out of good will?
Conservatives don't like it when they're standard bearers do things that make them look dumb.
That's when he sunk to the bottom.
Poll | Date | Trump | Walker | Bush | Rubio | Huckabee | Carson | Paul | Cruz | Kasich | Christie | Perry | Jindal | Santorum | Fiorina | Pataki | Spread |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
RCP Average | 7/13 - 7/28 | 20.8 | 13.7 | 12.2 | 6.8 | 6.3 | 6.2 | 5.5 | 5.2 | 3.5 | 3.0 | 2.2 | 1.5 | 1.5 | 1.3 | 0.7 | Trump +7.1 |
There is a softness and a generosity about Trump that lets him get away with quite honestly negative things about quite honestly negative people.
And I just don’t think Cruz has that. Cruz is not naturally inclined to good humor, which I think Trump is.
Now, that doesn’t mean I think Trump’s going to be the nominee. I just think he’s gifted in a way that Cruz isn’t.
And Obama is? The dims don't have this problem - they just put lipstick on that pig and ran with him because he thinks like they think. Why can't we do that as well?
I don’t think the Trump meeting hurt Cruz.
I do think that Trump has soaked up Cruz’s natural constituency—as well as Reagan Democrats and others that Cruz would have had a hard time winning over.
I only if this were the case. I’d love to see Cruz as our next president!
I fully expect Fox to cherry pick the polls it wants.
What are these supposed “qualifications” for President I keep hearing mentioned? Last I saw you had to be 35 and a natural born citizen. That’s it. When did a college degree or years of being a party hack or a wonk get added in?
The biggest laugh is “experience in govt”. Look what that’s gotten us. What we need is someone with experience in “rooting out corruption and firing vast numbers of lazy moochers.”
You haven’t paid enough attention to him.
I personally don’t think a president needs to be charming, he DOES NEED to be the smartest one of the bunch with the best solutions to fix this country and that’s Cruz.
The next Republican president, if there ever is one, needs not only to win the election, but needs a mandate.
For this, he needs several million Obama voters to vote for him.
In 1976, Gerald Ford got 39 million votes to Jimmy Carter’s 40 million. In 1980, Ronald Reagan got 43 million votes to Jimmy Carter’s 35 million.
Ronald Reagan would not have been elected without Democrats who voted for Jimmy Carter in 1976.
Senator Cruz is the perfect conservative candidate for President - assuming that losing with the perfect candidate is fine with you. He has zero crossover appeal, which is what he needs to win, and if Elizabeth Warren is the opponent (a certainty, IMO), his wife’s role at Goldman Sachs is going to be a boat anchor.
People around here constantly make the assumption that November 2016 voters are locked in, right now, to how they are going to vote based on what they did in 2012. If this is true, then we should save the money on polls and campaigns, stop having conventions, let the States appoint their electors, and send them the July 2015 poll results right before they vote.
I live in a little town in rural America. Our Democrats have about 15% communists and pointy-headed liberals, 50% farmers, and 35% displaced or threatened production workers. Of the latter two groups, support for Trump based on signs and personal contacts is about 50%.
Just as Republican voters are more conservative than Republican “leaders”, so are many Democratic voters. There are Democrats who would die before they voted for Cruz who will vote for Trump (or Palin).
He’s my candidate from among the traditional pols. But I call ‘em like I see ‘em.
If Senator Cruz has an alpha side, it had better show up soon.
Teddy Roosevelt had the same blowhard personality as Trump.
So there is a precedant.
Good point.
Stand-alone Cruz was full steam ahead ...captain of his ship....going somewhere.
Now up against Trump's grandiosity, Cruz appears to be a showboating wannabe.
That is a laugh and a half.
That would be the Constitution that defines the qualifications.
The rest is just personal judgement, ability and integrity and a large cadre of policy experts who share the same personal judgement, ability and integrity.
That's what Reagan's administration was like, and likely Trump will mirror that if elected.
Speaking about Cruz..........”He is not alone as most of the 17+ candidates have single digit support.”........
Let me start off by saying I have not yet picked a candidate I would support, Cruz perhaps but not just yet.
The media has a large part in the positions ALL candidates occupy. They know that Cruz COULD BE a high level candidate PROVIDING they covered what he has to say and fed that on to the general population of voters. They DO NOT, nor do they intend to.
Frankly I believe the media is scared to death that Cruz could easily beat a demodummie, their sweetheart candidate Clinton, consequently they avoid any coverage of Cruz’s efforts.
There is still along way to go before election day in Nov. 2016. Time will tell.
That smelled like a concession meeting. Please pick me as your VP.
