Donald Trump just issued a 'scathing' multimillion-dollar legal threat to a conservative group

The release — titled "Donald J. Trump Sends Club for Growth Scathing Cease and Desist Letter Regarding Recent 'Attack Ads'" — repeatedly bashed the Club for Growth, with whom Trump has constantly feuded during his campaign.

"I am not surprised the dishonest, irrelevant and totally failing Club for Growth has resorted to attacking the definitive front-runner, especially after I refused to contribute to their pathetic group," Trump said in a statement.

In the cease-and-desist letter to Club for Growth President David McIntosh, Trump lawyer Alan Garten similarly tore into the "pitiful little group" while promising a devastating lawsuit should the group not immediately pull its attack ads against Trump.

Why is it that when Romney was the candidate, NOTHING was ever heard from the GOPe and George Will and Charles Krauthamer and National Review and all the other newly minted conservative purists about his lack of conservative credentials? If there was ever someone who was a liberal...and it was not necessary to go back twenty years to find some impure, non-conservative actions.

You better believe CFG has some big money donors willing to cut your boy Trump down to size.

It’s all a bluff on Trump’s part.

Most people I know don’t care for political ads.

True, but if the ad is SO bad that Trump feel he can sue... that ought to pique the interest of a lot of people who normally wouldn't care.

"The Club for Growth has been a net positive since its founding and the ignorant yahoos criticizing it on FR don’t have a clue."

So that is why they are contributing to Bush. Got it.

I never believed in Ronald Reagan either because he flip flopped from a democrat labor union activist to a republican conservative. You are right, any one who changes agenda, can not be trusted /dripping with sarcasm...

CFG are open-borders scum-bags right along with the WSJ & all the other crony capitalists & free trade frauds who want to flood the country with cheap labor.

I think he started worrying during Bush-43 era when we borrowed $2 Trillion from foreign countries to fight a fruitless war in Iraq.

The fact is CFG can NOT afford to spend money on defending a multi-million dollar suit. It will wipe them out into bankruptcy.

Not when a judge hits Trump with sanctions and attorney's fees for filing a frivolous lawsuit.

I voted for Santorum last time and I remember a lot of commentary about Romney’s less than sterling conservative record. Evidently you weren’t paying attention.

Agreed 100%. So are all rich donors contributing to campaigns of all candidates, republican and democratic.
My tag line says it all.

that is a letter that trump tweeted out, so they have been after trump for money for a long time.

trump won't play the extortion game with them, so they are out to take trump down now. they probably would have been out to take trump out anyway, since their candidate is going to be GOPe approved.

the letter and tweets can be seen here

I voted for Newt in primary. And voted for Romney in general because he was more conservative on some issues than Obama, and not any more liberal than Obama on any issue.

Would they have still not liked him if he gave them the money?

Who knows? But someone printed the letter listed above, and there is no threat either express or implied that failure to contribute would result in retaliation. Unless Trump can establish a prima facie case for extortion, any such claim would never make it past the preliminary hearing.
