Over the past few months, the Republican race has morphed from a seventeen-headed gorgon into a more manageable monster with four faces.
The first face belongs to front runner Donald Trump, who has run an idiosyncratic campaign, focused almost entirely on his own personality. He has no discernible platform, represents no clear faction of the GOP, and is running as Trump rather than as a Republican.
The next two faces are recognizably Republican. Ted Cruz, a respectable second, is running as the strong constitutional conservative. He favors a smaller government; decentralization of authority; a foreign policy grounded in the national interest; support for Israel; and resolute opposition to Islamist terror.
John Kasich, currently a distant third, pitches himself as a moderate, flexible conservative, steeped in fiscal rectitude, and likely to play well in a general election. Though he boasts a solid resume and polls well among independents and Democrats, his prospects for being anything other than a spoiler are minimal....

After NY, possibly sooner, Cruz will no longer have any path to 1237. None. He will be at that point as likely as Kasich to prevail on delegates earned.
At that point will he heed his own advice and ‘prayerfully consider’ whether he should continue?
He'd be a fool to think they won't stab in the back. Maybe he has a deal to get a supreme court nomination from the mystery candidate.
The free passes will subside -as more Americans see the dark cloud in our midst. [#23]
I look for every one of your article posts and read them every one. Never stop, friend.

Voting Hillary, huh?
Your mind is made up. Why should we “comment”?
Your mind is made up, why should I respond? LOL
Yes, it is and that is exactly my point. Why further divide this forum? It doesn't promote discussion but just foments anger. (maybe that's what you're after)
Honest to God! How many politicians and media heads does it take to prop up little Teddy?
Jeez, can the guy stand on his own or will he collapse without Levin and Beck and Romney/Ryan/McConnell/Hatch/McCain shill for him??
Hilarious! And they believe people are that dumb and can’t see this for what it is?!
They are dumber than dirt if they think that.
Standing down would be a bad idea. Without Cruz, the anti-Trump vote would go 100% to Kasich. Cruz and Kasich both beat Trump one-on-one in several states where Trump leads the current race. The best position for Trump (other than no opposition) is two opponents, and that's what he's got now. I want Cruz in the race for as long as Kasich is, and I'm going to be voting for Trump. Does that make sense to you?
Cruz and Trump agree far more than 80% of the time (see my tagline from Ronald Reagan). They should be friends and allies, and we should treat both of them as such.
Ted’s accomplishment; Government Shutdown
That’s what the general election will be about.
Good luck to the GOPe. If Cruz is nominated with all the GOPe backing they will own him too.
Its called a campaign, not a coronation.
Thjose who originally claimed Cruz was to radical/hard-core/right-wing/christian/rabid to be a viable candidate are now working with him to stop Trump.
They know that if he stops Trump, then nobody will be a clear winner and they have a better than even chance of giving Cruz the boot too.
They didn't all of a sudden start loving Cruz, they see trump as the biggest threat to the establishment and the status quo, so they eagerly help Cruz exercise his vendetta and rub their hands in anticipation of the coming coup de grace they intend to inflict on Cruz and those who hope for a real change to take hold once the only possible clear winner is eliminated from that position....
Sheep to the slaughter and they celebrate at every Cruz "coup"...
Versus the host of Trump supporters who do the same? Damn the hypocrisy....full steam ahead huh?
Keep up the good work 2DV.
