Cruz supporters dominate at district convention in Newnan, around state (Georgia)
The Newnan Times-Herald ^ | April 19, 2016 | Sarah Fay Campbell

Conventions were held in every Georgia Congressional district last week to choose 42 of the state’s 76 delegates to the Republican National Convention. Each district choses three delegates.

In the Third District, which includes Coweta, Trump won overwhelmingly in the Presidential Preference Primary. He also overwhelmingly won Georgia. But Saturday, Ted Cruz supporters overwhelmingly were named delegates at conventions around the state.

Though many of the delegates chosen Saturday are supporters of Cruz, they still have to vote for Donald Trump at the Republican National Convention on the first ballot. Under Republican party rules, the delegates are free to vote for anyone after the first ballot.

Georgia’s rules call for delegates to be bound for the first two votes. Trump supporter Jackson Turner of LaGrange said that state law actually requires it, and that he will take action to swear out warrants against any delegate who doesn’t remain true to Trump on the second ballot.

Third District Chairman Dale Jackson, one of the three delegates elected Saturday, said that there is some debate about that. “It really depends on who is reading the rules. There are a lot of different opinions out there.”

“I believe there is a state law that has been broken on numerous occasions and has never been challenged,” Jackson said.

The other two delegates are Denise Ognio of Peachtree City and Katie Frost of Newnan, both Cruz supporters. Jackson said he is not committed to any particular candidate.

The convention process begins with “precinct mass meetings” in each county. Delegates are then elected to the county convention. From there, delegates are elected to the district convention.

Probably 80 percent of the district convention delegates were Cruz supporters, Jackson said.

“As far as I know there was not one single Trump supporter out there [as a delegate to the district convention] that left feeling like that their voice wasn’t heard or that any rules were not followed. They just didn’t have as many votes,” Jackson said.

Look for a story on the convention in Wednesday’s Newnan Times-Herald.

For simple minds they definitely work well

You don't get it. Engaging in circular arguments is a waste of our time. We'd rather go the nuclear route and point out that Cruz is an ineligible turd.

Turd is a personal insult.

You don’t have any arguments.

You don’t even have a circular argument.

Why can’t your side win the eligibility argument ?

You’ve lost it in more than six different states now.

I think its because you don’t really have any arguments.

Your namesake was elected to the presidency twice, and truth be told, he won in 1960, too. Plus he was elected vice president twice. He was not likeable either.

Very conservative people vote for Cruz.

Conservative ain't cutting it. We want results. What have conservatives done since 1994?

Liberals vote for Trump.

Liberals support border security, kicking the s--t out of Islamofascists, and negotiating trade deals? If so, why are you objecting?

Cheating

See Rafael in IA, CO, and other states.
Rafael Cruz is ineligible to seek the Presidency and will be destroyed by the Left.

Trump won Florida and New York. The only candidate to win two of the big six: Texas, Florida, Ohio, New York, Pennsylvania, and California.

>Such as changing the 1237 delegates to win, to say, 1500 delegates.

They sure can. And then they’ll pay the price for stealing the election. The party will die, Cruz supporters will be hated & reviled and the Republic will die under the weight the 10s of millions of Muslims that Hillery will import.

Luckily for me and the country those are not Cruz delegates. They’re GOPe owned delegates. Cruslims may be willing to destroy the country in their hissy fit over the voters not voting for them, but the GOP wants to live and they will take a deal.

Cruz and his supporters are nothing more than pawns.

Donald Trump is the only old right, Robert A Taft conservative in this race. He’s isolationist and non-liberal interventionist.

Turd is a personal insult.

Rafael Cruz sided with BLM thugs back on Fri 03/11. So, I have no interest in engaging in respectful discussion.

You don’t have any arguments.

I do. My candidate supports securing the borders, kicking out Islam, and negotiating fair trade agreements. That's far better than the 18 out of the last 22 years that Republicans didn't do jack squat.

You don’t even have a circular argument.

I have a linear argument, which is better.

Why can’t your side win the eligibility argument?

It's waiting in the wings. If Cruz is nominated or selected as VP, Clinton's operatives or Obama's DOJ will destroy him.

You’ve lost it in more than six different states now.

Rafael Cruz has lost the entire SEC primaries and the Northeast. He is NOT a national candidate.

I think its because you don’t really have any arguments.

Your delusional and should finish your can of Keystone Light.

Trump sided with the Muslim attackers who tried to kill Geller and others here in Texas with assault weapons here in Garland.

You will get no sympathy from me on your misrepresentation of Cruz’s chicago remarks.

Trump was crystal clear with Geller.

Cruz has won states all across the nation including the Northeast. Cruz won Maine with more than 45% of the vote.

I really don’t think Clinton will be as hateful to Cruz as Freepers have been.

I don’t think she will call him a communist.

I don’t think she will run ads comparing him to kim jon un of North Korea.

Cruz has a much better chance at 270 electoral votes than Trump and that is easily verified any examining the state polls.

I agree completely.

The “GOP” is sold out to China. The democrats are sold out to China. Everyone is sold out to China.

Only Trump is for America. He is the only one. Bernie Sanders was marginally also for American workers, but nobody else in either party, is for working Americans.

Nobody.

I was at that convention as a delegate. Trump supporters put together a Unity Slate (2 Trump one Cruz) to try to pull over some votes. There was also competition for the Alternates. There were several rounds of voting, and a winner was not declared until a slate got more than 50%. This means that the endorsed slate would not have the advantage of going against a splintered opposition.

Statewide, Georgia went something like 36-25-23 Trump-Rubio-Cruz. In the third district, Trump ranged from the mid-30s to the upper 40s with Cruz ranging from the mid-20s to the mid-30s in the individual counties. At the time of that election, there were about ten candidates still and Rubio pulled strong in the state. Moreover, Democrats and Independents were allowed to vote in the election as Georgia does not have party registration. Trump's margin of 10% over Rubio and Cruz does in that environment does not translate in support among people within the Republican party at the grassroots level. I'm an IT guy, the couple in front of me are a medical doctor and his wife, there was a realtor, a high ranking military retiree (Trump supporter, for the record), a couple of retirees, an 18 year old high school student, etc. These are not wine and cheese hobnobbers.

The Trump people were present, and made their present felt. A significant number didn't bother to show up at the open to all voters Mass Meeting to register to be a delegate at the District or State convention so had to remain behind the rope with the media in the gallery. And all this was to select three delegates and three alternates. More will be at stake at the state convention.

The delegates at the convention also vote on the Party Platform and Party Rules and that sort of thing. Taking that into consideration, the people chosen were well qualified to represent the 3rd District at the convention.

Trump sided with the Muslim attackers who tried to kill Geller and others here in Texas with assault weapons here in Garland.

Trump wasn't a declared presidential candidate in May 2015 and has made up for it by calling for a temporary ban on Muslim immmigrants.

You will get no sympathy from me on your misrepresentation of Cruz’s chicago remarks.

But Rafael defended the thugs JUST LAST MONTH. He sided with thugs over the rule of law. What does that tell you?

Trump was crystal clear with Geller.

See first post where Trump learned from it and has made up for it.

Cruz has won states all across the nation including the Northeast. Cruz won Maine with more than 45% of the vote.

BWHAHAHA! The only primaries Rafael has won is Wisconsin and Texas. WI: Helped by Reince Preibus, Walker, and the state GOP. Texas: Did not win a majority of the votes. His vaunted SEC primary strategy imploded.

I really don’t think Clinton will be as hateful to Cruz as Freepers have been.

I am telling you. Clinton and Obama will destroy Cruz over his eligibility. His Mother may have held Canadian citizenship at the time of his birth.

I don’t think she will call him a communist. I don’t think she will run ads comparing him to kim jon un of North Korea.

Cruz is not a communist and I never said he was. I'm saying he will get destroyed over his eligibility.

Cruz has a much better chance at 270 electoral votes than Trump and that is easily verified any examining the state polls.

Trump is a national candidate. He just smoked Cruz in NY. Cruz's victory in ME is an anomaly as it was a caucus primary. Trump will force Hillary or Bernie to compete in NY, CA, and IL. Cruz cannot. He didn't even win the South against Trump, his supposed stronghold.
