(CNN)Donald Trump's campaign is scrambling to ramp up its planning for the general election, including scraping together a list of potential vice presidential candidates, after Trump abruptly became the presumptive Republican nominee Tuesday night.

The Trump campaign, blindsided by rival Ted Cruz's sudden exit from the race, is now beginning internal deliberations about potential vice presidential candidates, two Trump campaign sources tell CNN.

I didn't say Trump needs to pick a lightweight. I said he shouldn't pick a career politician who doesn't bring anything to the table.

Donald Trump stands a better chance of winning in November with Bill Cosby as his running mate than with Newt Gingrich.

Are you kidding? Hillary Clinton is in a fake marriage and everyone knows it, including her daughter. The Clintons lead separate lives. People say Hillary Clinton is a lesbian. Whatever. But to say she has lived in the same household with Bill Clinton for the past decade+ is a lie. Notice how Bill Clinton’s name never comes up regarding the emails. Why?

The Clintons live separate lives. Anyone who tries to say Trump or Newt have more flaws than the Clintons, when both men have already admitted to their flaws decades ago, is not aware of the power of social media. Both Trump and Newt are in committed relationships unlike the Clintons. While the liberal media has shielded the Clintons from the obvious questions of, do you even have a normal marriage, that won’t be the case once we get to the general election. And at least Trump and Newt both acknowledge they weren’t perfect, but when it comes to helping America be great again, they will not waiver.

I can live with Martinez. Expect him to pick most of his cabinet by the convention.

Expect Gingrich, Christi and Guiliani to fill roles. I wouldn’t be surprised in Palin is in there somewhere too but not VP.

Just imagine the VP debate with Gingrich.

EPIC.

Newt Gingrich, probably one of the most brilliant political tacticians and strategists of our generation, would be completely WASTED as VP. Why would you relegate him to such a dead-end job? But Chief of Staff, on the other hand, and now you’re talking!

“Trump inner circle has Sessions and Palin...pick one or the other.”

Sessions would probably be a great pick, but outside of us knuckle dragging conservatives, who knows him?

Ditto Sarah, but for the opposite reason. Too many potential converts to the Trump bandwagon would be turned off by their hardened, negative attitudes towards her.

Gotta keep looking.

“Allen West would be great”

Agreed, and for a host of reasons. Excellent choice.

Very weird response.

Comparing Bill Cosby to Newt Gingrich? LOL

“Trump/Love 2016”

As in, Mia Love, the alleged Tea Party conservative who was elected to the House, and immediately rolled over for the Geriatric Old Plotters?

No.

“Kasich”

No, no, and no.

The man is a complete fruit loop, and an open borders shill, as well.

No!

“Gov perry also a yes.”

I’ll give you a break because you’re in Cali, and probably don’t know Perry like we Texans do. He’s not as respected in this state as you think he is. As a matter of fact, he’s downright despised by the Texas Tea Party right.

Actually, he’s held in pretty low regard across most conservative factions, because he’s proved himself to be nothing more than a political animal who uses his offices and support to feather his own nest and professional aspirations.

As we say here in Texas, “Aw, hell naw!”

I totally agree with your assessment: Newt would be a perfect choice for vp. He is stone cold brilliant, loves America and is a tactician to boot. Check chck and check.

Well .. my pick will be controversial .. I believe .. really believe .. that unless Trump picks Cruz to be VP, Trump will be in very hot water (regarding the Constitution), ON THE VERY FIRST DAY Trump enters the WH.

The article goes on to say that none of the 3 want to be chosen. I can’t imagine why they’d want Haley after she shafted him in the SC primary. Portman is a bad choice, too. They need to keep digging and choose a real conservative.
