On July 19, 2017 it was announced that Sen. John McCain (R), 80, was diagnosed with brain cancer. His specific diagnosis was a primary glioblastoma, a type of brain tumor with a median survival time of 15-16 months. While the tumor was removed during an operation, this type of cancer commonly returns.
Delphi Analytica asked what the people of Arizona thought Senator McCain should do in light of his devastating diagnosis. Our poll was conducted via internet of 667 Arizona residents from July 2123. 12% thought Senator McCain should not retire at this time. 19% thought that it was too soon after his diagnosis to consider this question. Shockingly, however 35% thought Senator McCain, who has served in the United States Senate continuously since 1987 and who just won reelection 8 months ago, should retire.

Dr. Kelli Ward, who challenged Senator McCain in the Republican primary in 2016, took to the radio on July 20th to call Senator McCain to step down. She stated, I hope Senator McCain is going to look long and hard at this, that his family and his advisers are going to look at this and theyre going to advise him to step away as quickly as possible, so that the business of the country and the business of Arizona being represented at the federal level can move forward. Later that day her website, kelliward.com, she posted The medical reality of his diagnosis is grim. Senator McCain has an aggressive brain cancer that is both devastating and debilitating. When the time comes that Senator McCain can no longer perform his duties in the Senate at full capacity, he owes it to the people of Arizona to step aside. Many criticized Dr. Ward for calling for Senator McCains exit so quickly after his publicly disclosed diagnosis. Since Arizona is one of five states that requires not only a governor appointment of a replacement senator should a vacancy occur, but that that vacancy be filled with a person of the same political party of the exiting Senator, Ms. Ward would be a probable candidate to take Senator McCains seat until the next general election.

Update: On July 25th, 2017, the Senator appeared on Capitol Hill to cast his vote on the Republicans efforts to repeal the Affordable Care Act.
That arrogant speech he gave today should add to these numbers. Songbird has had 8 years to do something on healthcare and he has failed, yet he wants to blame it on talk shows.
Go home, wetstart, go home.
“Don’t listen to the bombastic loudmouths of the radio and the internet. To hell with them.”
You can’t get better representation than that, unless you want to be represented.
Time to step down (and maybe step off), Juan.
I have been assured by GOP types that Crash “Keating Five” McCain was adored in Arizona as a “True American Hero” who is “Too Tough For Cancer”.
He will never leave voluntarily. He proved that today. He will stay until his last breath. And I bet he would LOVE to die right in the Senate Chambers.
For corn’s sake, the man has a farging **brain**tumor**. How can he be trusted to think rationally?
YES!
If there s a legal way o remove him just watch the Democrats go to bat for him.
And I am one of these... He needed to go a longtime ago. The liberals in Az voted him back in again.
I tried to be nice regarding him, but he blew it when he said that the Senate should stand up to Trump. He never said that about Obama. Hell is waiting for you, Juan.
Today’s speech just proved again how much of a swamp creature the RINO McCain has become.
He won’t quit before he croaks, he’s too much of an asshole to do the right thing for AZ and his country.
A majority of Arizona residents want...squirrel!
All the RINOs on Fox and Fox Biz today were gaga over his speech, especially the females. Maybe they were trying to be loyal to his daughter.
I want him to heal and then answer for his involvement in the false Russian dossier before a senate investigative panel.
The desert heat must have gotten to them.
When you’re the Demonrats’ most popular Republican senator, you definitely are suspect.
McStain has not been thinking rationally since his Plebe Year!
