A book by John LeCarre called "A Small Town in Germany". In the British Army of Rhine after the war, there as a song popular with the troops containing lines (more or less), "In a small town there lived a Musikant, "Ich bin der Musikant, ich lieb' der Vaterland". Musikant is apparently the German word for a hack musician, a club player, as opposed to a Musiker who might play in a prestigious ochestra.

Read it again to see the two independent clauses incorrectly joined:

(The 2 independent clauses are: "Poverty is not prevalent." "It is more visible there.")
To use "although" as a conjunction here, you need a comma before it.

By the way, Russia is the largest country in Asia. The Russian Republic has 6,592,812 square miles, while the People's Republic of China has 3,691,502 square miles, according to Merriam-Webster.
