BAGHDAD, Iraq (AP) -- The U.S. military command said Sunday that 13 soldiers were killed and more than 20 wounded when their U.S. Chinook helicopter was shot down near Fallujah.
"Currently there are 13 killed in action and more than 20 wounded," the U.S. military said in a statement.
The the wounded have all been transferred to medical facilities and authorities are searching for more survivors, it said.
The Chinook helicopter was believed to be carrying dozens of soldiers to their leaves abroad was struck by a missile and crashed in corn fields west of Baghdad, witnesses and U.S. officials said. A coalition official had earlier said that at least two soldiers were killed and 20 injured.

I'll say it again: it is time for a house-to-house, town-by-town heavily-armed sweep of this sand-infested cesspool. Baathists and Jihadists should be summarily executed when encountered.
Case closed.

Syria and Iran at the very least are giving these terrorists nods and winks.

I nominate YOU to lead the sweep. See if you can do any better.

As Jed Babbin (I believe) has said, we need a military strike against the numerous terrorist camps in Syria, which are in isolated areas. Should add the Western part of Iran, as well.
People (well, scumbag liberals) don't understand that this is a war agains Islamofascism, not against Afghanistan and Iraq - the fight needs to be where the terrorists are. The only valid comparison to Vietnam right now is that Syria and Iran (and Saudi, too) are being treated with the same "hands-off" crap that Cambodia and Laos received (and you can add the Yalu River in the Korean War as well). Can't let that continue to happen. Hoping that the lack of anything happening is merely a re-building of our supplies.

Exactly. We need a return to MAJOR COMBAT OPERATIONS. This is a war that was aborted too soon because the enemy ran away. These Baathist thugs and Syrian terrorists are going to keep picking off Coalition troops and civilians for the forseeable future. It is time to end this "operational pause" and take care of business. Maybe start by levelling Fallujah -- every time that name is mentioned, it's bad news.

The terrorists who did this have to be getting good intelligence somewhere. I doubt they were just driving around in a cornfield with RPG's and happened to see American Helicopters.

I mistakenly had my channel on CNN with the sound off after watching a bio on Denzel Washington...Revolting pictures of Iraqis celebrating in the streets with lots of anti-American sentiment being solicited/enouraged from the CNN reporters. I do wish Fox would start beaming into Iraq kind of like the Voice of America used to do in communist countries.

It is very much look like Chechnya of pair of years ago. All same. Zachispka(sweepup)-s, good chechen police and bad chechen rebels. Road bombs, helicopters hits. And so on.
Before that it was Afganistan, then Vietnam.
All common thing. The foreign power came to progress native population. The population refuses to progress then it come to overall mess. Th eforeign power have to kill them all to pacify.
Guys it isn't worth. Here the need to install pro-american goverment like in Afganistan and move out troops.
Pro-ameican goverment will be enough to not allow the WMD programs to be reestablihed.
And important thing it will be lot cheaper.
Let you save money 87 bln dollars.
To fight in Islam world is the same thing as to throw pebbles to ant cone. The ant just began to move faster that is all.

Anybody believe that there is a link between these attacks; the A.N.W.S.E.R. protests last weekend and the recent visit by the W.W.P leaders as observers recently?

That sounds like a plan to me. We DO NOT need the population of Iraq to stabalize the treat against the US. Perhaps we should start to make that clear; either change and grow, or cease to exist.

I have to wonder why these helicopters weren't protected with adequate antimissile devices. As painful as the loss of so many troops is, the question will be raised and I don't believe the Army will have an answer. Surely the thought these choppers would be targets for shoulder fired missiles must have occured to the brass.
If it turns out they did have some protection and it failed then the question of how the shooters defeated that technology will be at the front of everyone's mind.

Saddam kept the peace via terror. When you acted against Saddam, punishment would come down on your family and you. This is the Muslim way and looking like the only way. We have to start doing something like this to get people in line in Iraq.
As for the foreign fighters? Interrogate until they reveal where they come from and their family. Take action.
