If Charles Windsor (nee Saxe-Coeburg-Gotha) has any concern for Britain, or for the monarchy beyond himself, he will remove himself from the succession to the throne in favor of his son WilliamJust talking about this with the hubby last night. If you think about the possible life-span of the Queen (Queen Mum lived to 100), Charles, himself, may end up being quite elderly before he would even have the chance to be King.
I had thought she might abdicate in favor of him at some point so he wouldn't have to wait so long; but his recent past tell me that she won't be doing that. I, too, think that the Crown may just skip over him and go directly to William (if he wants it).
Perhaps we are seeing the end of the English Monarchy, not by revolution, but by implosion.
To: CatoRenasci
I suppose this is true for the most part.
The reign of Charles II was distinguished in a somewhat important way. Charles was the symbol and the beneficiary, not the instigator, of a welcome anti-puritannical movement whose effects are still being felt.
Americans love the British monarchy--because it's "over there" and easy to romanticise and they don't have to pay for it.
One of the best things the founders of the U.S. did was to abolish the monarchy and all hereditary titles.
That notwithstanding, William does hold considerable promise, if the monarchy is to continue, of bringing to it the best qualities of Diana and the best qualities, including survivability and pragmatism, of the Windsors, e.g. the best qualities of Diana and Elizabeth.

Neither of the previous Charles had distinguished reigns...Marvellous understatement. ;^)
King Arthur bump - it's said he'll come in Albion's hour of need.

Indeed. It's much more cuddly when it's in 'oh so quaint' merrye olde Englande than it would be here if we were footing the bill.
I agree William might do well and be a decent sort of king, I just don't the the public has the stomach for Charles. Oh, there are high Tory diehards who would accept him if he turned out to be Jack the Ripper, but the average decent Englishman thinks his behavior has ill-fitted a future king with Dianna, Camilla and the like. As the Brits say a "moderate effort" -- which means a damned poor job in plain English.

If Charles Windsor (nee Saxe-Coeburg-Gotha) has any concern for Britain, or for the monarchy beyond himself, he will remove himself from the succession to the throne in favor of his son William, let William become Prince of Wales, accept a royal Dukedom, and retire from public life altogether.Even better, maybe finally the Brits will wake up and realize that monarchy in the 21st century is a ridiculous concept, and trash the monarchy for once and for all.

Charles' back -up plan, if all else fails, is to become ordained as a bishop in the Anglican Church..after all, he'll tell the media..he's now literal " defender of the faith"

Charles's father's last name was "Batenberg" until they changed it too "Mountbaten" before the 2nd world war. They wanted it to sound much less German, at the time.
Charles's great grandmother loathed who she called, "those Batenberg boys!".
Lord Mountbaten, Charles's favourite uncle, whom he spent a great deal of time with when he was young, was widely known to be a gay man. Charles grew up in a castle where his parents had little time for him...and Uncle made a great deal of time for him! Perhaps there is much, much more to this story? Perhaps family abuse?

Does anyone out there have a link to an article that details the accusation. The news keeps saying that it is "all over the internet" but, I can not find even one site with the full story! Just the inuendo...

Does this look like a gay blade?

On the third hand, even if Charles did commit buggery, isn't that what the English are famous for...? Oh all right! All right! But, after all, he is half Greek. So what's the big deal? Especially considering the shenannigans of past British monarchs. And it was his manservant, who probably figured it was in his job description or something like that. And anyway, doesn't he get some credit if he was the buggerer rather than the buggeree? Would the English find it more acceptable if it were some S&M tableau? I mean, they're always talking about spanking and being spanked.

I'll bet you somebody is or was, blackmailing somebody and somebody refused to pay. I'll bet there is much more to this story than has been divulged thus far.
