IMHO, the so-called militias cannot be effective for many reasons, first of all because they are totally penetrated by agents provacateurs. The serious militias would never call themselves that lightning rod term. They would call themselves a hunting club etc and conduct any training in private. Even then, the number of participants would have to be tiny, under ten I would think.

Franks is what-iffing a worst case scenario, factoring in human nature. Don't shoot the messanger for delivering a warning.

Slogans and idealisms seldom reflect reality. Liberty and Freedom does not spontaneously arise from anarchy and chaos.
It takes strong leadership and an iron hand to stabilize a chaotic country. Take a look at Iraq, do you think that if we hand them a copy of the US constitution and tell them to practice it, and immediately take our military out, that liberty and freedom will spontaneously take hold in that chaotic country? I don't think many on this thread will take a bet on it. I can't live long in any place where my Freedom and Liberty are infringed, but I'm also a realists.
I agree with General Franks, though I fear the consequences.
I pray that, whoever takes power will have the idealism and sense of self sacrifice as George Washington.

Don't be so quick to exonerate an entire Administration just because Bush himself may be OK. I do battle against Justice Department lawyers under Bush every day, and they pull same crap to beat up helpless citizens that they did under Clinton.

Agree..but, still, IMHO it'll be easy for Clark to smear Franks now, as a wacko..in fact, becuase its necessary for Clark to get out in front of this story..remember Shelton's comments..I'll bet that he says something nasty about Tommy..real soon

One big difference,...entire world was on a war footing for over 4 years.
IMHO, Gen Franks may want to board a commercial plane and fly from one coast to another and consider just exactly how many people exist out there today without any affiliation with the military.
One WMD won't change all modus operendi for all people.
If it did, then the US military failed miserably in their entire professional lives to defend the Constitution.

If true he said this, he should be removed immediately. OK, #1 He's retired, where are we going to remove him from?
#2, he said this as a warning, something he fears, not something he supports or looks forward to.
#3 Perhaps you should read he article before commenting.

I think Schwartzkopf and Powell would be right there to vaporize Clark if he steps over any lines.

I disagree. Franks can swat this away like a fly. There's no upside in Clark running with this story. Generals are paid to what-if worst case scnenarios.

How would armed Americans handle a chemical or biological attack on the US?
