Ireland decides not to file UN resolution on anti-Semitism

NEW YORK - Ireland on Wednesday decided that it would not be presenting a proposal to the United Nations condemning anti-Semitism and calling on all UN member states to take steps against anti-Semitism.

Ireland, whcih proposes a UN resolution on religious intolerance every 20 years, drew up the resolution on anti-Semitism as part of a compromise with Israel, which wanted the original proposal to include an out-and-out condemnation of anti-Semitism. Ireland agreed in the end to present a resolution dealing solely with anti-Semitism.

The resolution had garnered the support of European Union member nations, but Ireland wanted to first ensure that the proposal would have all-out support, even from the Arab and Muslim nations. The Irish apparently withdrew the resolution after failing to convince the Arab countries to back the proposal.

"We were very sorry to hear about the Irish decision," Deputy Israeli Ambassador to the UN Arieh Makel said in response. "The Irish proposal was very encouraging and expressed concern for the ever worsening cases of anti-Semitism around the world."

I think the Irish have forgotten how hard it was to be an Irish Catholic in the world (especially in the US) only 120 years ago

I feel very unconfortable when liberals attack me because I have conservative and christian ideas. Can the UN pass a resolution condemning the attacks of liberals against law abiding citizens ?

While you are there, can you pass a resolution that condemns the persecution of christians in the muslim world ?

And while you are there, can you pass a resolution condemning the ISR for stealing money from american citizens ?

And while you are there, can you pass a resolution condemning all the garbage we see in the TV and in the movies ?

And while you are there, can you pass a resolution for banning pornography ? I feel very uncomfortable knowing that children can access that on the news post and/or in the Internet.

Can you pass a resolution condemning prostitution and all the countries that promote it ?

Can you pass a resolution condemning the execution of 36 million innocent babies in America since 1973 ? By the way the assesination of these babies is equilavent to the extermination of all the Canadian population plus Alaska's. I call this legal genocide in America. A new Holocaust, http://www.roevwade.org/

Can you pass a resolution condemning illegal inmigration ?

Would you, would you please ?

Of course, the IRA has often made common cause with the PLO. Truth be told, the Irish see nothing wrong with terrorism.

I do believe that they should control Northern Ireland though.

The Irish media hates America. More Euro-Leftism.

This is your opinion or you have some data?

There is wide popular support for the IRA. Am I making that up? They see all conflicts through the prism of their own. Thus, they see Israel as the British. They have joint terror training camps with the Al Qaeda and PLO. Generally, the Irish see terror as a legitimate tool to cope with a better armed foe. They undoubtedly see Jewish settlers, esp from America and Europe, as interloper. They believe the arabs are right. I tend to think they didn't file this resolution because they think Zionism ,not anti-semitism,
is the problem. I say this as a non-jew.

Just not the murder of Israelis. pity!

It takes stones and moral conviction to stand with the jews. Clearly, the Irish don't think the jews are right. So if you don't agree with the jews, whats the point of standing with them?

It takes no "stones" at all to stand "against anti-Semitism." All people should be on that page.

I think the problem is the changing awareness of the misnomer "AntiSemitism". I read article on the net almost daily that declare Zionism the enemy of the Jews, Hebrews, and Israelites and these articles are from respected Jewish Rabbis. example
Grand Rabbi Teitlebaum's Jews Against Zionism website

The term antisemitism really needs to be scrapped and replaced with something more accurate, IMHO.

I'm Irish, not Jewish, but with this kind of open dissension in the Jewish community over the definition of "AntiSemitism", I can hardly blame Ireland for dropping the resolution.

"The Jewish community" doesn't exist as such. There is no behavioural identifier that distinguishes ALL Jews and makes us form a community, besides the loose one of having ancestry in common and some principles of religious belief. Most of us don't know each other and never will.

This is precisely why it's not legimate to generalise about Jews -- and precisely why there are no grounds for being against Jews on principle. You might as well say that because one very short person thinks there is no prejudice against short people you can conclude that there is indeed no prejudice against short people.

Really???? Standing against anti-Semitism at the UN tends to suggest that there is such a thing and that it is something that should trouble the world. It is also seen as a stance favorable to Israel. For all the reasons I have stated, the vote took stones.

You don't seem to realize that many people in the world community loathe the jewish state and the jewish people. Arabism is the safe move, one wouldn't want to get on the bad side of the Arab league. If one supports Israel too much, it's believed, the terrorists will find occassion to attack you.
