I happen to disagree with you.16 and 17 year old kids need to learn how to drive without the temptation of speeding, racing and other dangerous acts without the skills needed to perform them.Lets also include the temptation of having a few beers at the same time. After what I did behind the wheel 35 years ago as a kid I think it may be a good law.

That's NEVER going to happen. The temptation will always be there. Your statement assumes that the root cause for speeding, racing, etc. is based on OTHERS in the car?

Why don't we just wish it away?

Because of what YOU did, EVERYONE should be penalized?

Note that it bans both parents from being there simultaneously. How goofy can it be.

We already have a similar law in the books in Washington State. No passengers (unless family members) for 6 months after you get your license. A driving curfew. And must have had a driving permit for at least 6 months in order for you to take the test.

Whether people agree or disagree, No one has complained publicly about these restrictions.

In other words it was OK for you to do it but not for anyone else.

Based on my youthful experience, I was more apt to race when there was nobody in the car but me. Why? Because adding the weight of passingers to the that of the vehicle doesn't help you win the race.

This is a silly law. It puts the government in the position of doing a parent's job. It leans towards the idea of dummying down the actions of all teens to that of the lowest denominator. It does nothing to reduce the activities that it purports to reduce, but it will add vehicles to the road. Instead of 2 young couples going to the prom together in one car, there will be 2 couples going in two cars. They may even race. :)
