[history]
December 24, 2003 -- WASHINGTON - Alarming messages published on known al Qaeda Web sites are claiming the terror network is about to launch its biggest strikes ever - and are warning Muslims to leave the cities of New York, Washington and Los Angeles. The statements monitored by U.S. government agencies, as well as by a Washington-based terrorist research group, are part of the alarming increase in "chatter" among terrorist operatives in recent weeks that played a role in the Bush administration's decision to raise the nation's threat alert to high (orange).

what if McDonalds or Burger King couldn't get ground beef???
Say, that's pretty funny!
What makes you think they have ground "beef" NOW?
Pasteurized process cheese "food" says it all.
Haha.
Just got done weapons cleaning, now going to go shopping.

Well, it also make us mad enough to take over another couple of Muslim countries... True, but it ain't couth to belabor the obvious.

Or maybe just enjoying seeing us scared, without having to do anything more expensive than "chatter." Always a possibility. The news these days revels in being able to report the sources we use to track these guy. It may make interesting news stores, but it also give our enemies a clear understanding of how to avoid detection, and how to spoof us.
Except for the dumb ones. Thankfully, most of them are dumb.

I disagree -- hitting symbolic targets in NYC and Washington DC left a few people feeling vulnerable and nervous (ask anyone who works in the Empire State Building or the Sears Tower) but left most people feeling that they were unlikely to be targets. The inability to repeat attacks of that nature have made people feel all the more secure. The terrorists (if they're smart, which is far from certain), will learn from the Palestinians -- you create fundamental terror in a society by attacking the mundane everyday targets and showing you can do it repeatedly.
9/11 cost 3000 lives and tens of billions of dollars, but if the terrosist could kill a few hundred people attacking a mall in Tennessee or South Carolina and then kill a few hundred more people attacking a high school in Oregon or Utah a week later -- that would have a much gerater impact despite a far lower body count or dollar cost.

I really don't think so. I think Americans would write it off as a cost of 'doing business'... except that once again, the Islamists would discover that 'getting America's attention' is a big mistake.

This is nothing but hype in my opinion. The first country they will use such weapons will be on Israel, or during a war the Arab world will have with Israel. Also, terror groups like Al Queda does not have these or they would have already used them. Terrorist states like Syria and Iran do. Once war breaks out, led by Egypt and Syria, they will use them on Israel, most likely once American forces arrive in some form to help Israel in the war. They only have first strike capability, so they might as well target their two hated country's people's the same time.
Also, the main problem in operating these WMD is transportation. In the scenerio I described above, the WMD will be outfitted in ships, during the war for Israel's survival with Arab states, and will be rammed into the Haifa harbor in the Meditteranean sea, and the Eilat Harbor, in the Red Sea, in my opinion.

Not quite. I was thinking more along the lines of quiet desperation interlaced with general happiness.

Hey, this tiny rural town in Virginia is actually very close to quite a few targets...I've heard this mentioned on a couple of threads without the town being named. I live in a tiny rural town in Northern Virginia just outside of DC. Which town is the target you're talking about? I'm wondering for two reasons:
1.) It sounds like it could be my town or one nearby.
2.) We have a large Muslim population here. Well, we used to, anyway. Many of them are MIA. The two Muslim women who worked at CVS are gone. The countless numbers of Muslim women I used to see when I was out shopping have dwindled down to a mere handful. The majority of them seem to have just disappeared. I started noticing a drop in their numbers a few weeks ago. Now, they are almost nonexistent. I'm not freaking out about it, but it is strange and has me hyper-alert and ready for anything.
