Flights From Paris to U.S. Cancelled
MSNBC | December 24, 2003

Posted on 12/24/2003 10:41:16 AM PST by cyncooper

MSNBC just announced that three flights from Paris to the U.S. have been suddenly cancelled due to "security concerns". The first flight was scheduled to depart Paris heading for Los Angeles.

I could not find an article yet.

Plans are still a go. But I will be incredibly vigiliant flying there, staying there (downtown London), and then coming back.

"Perhaps they were aiming for British targets!"

That is a possibility that hasn't been posted.

The jets would have been full of jet fuel and would have tracked near the UK. Brit preventive intel is still one of the best in the world.

"Why is Saddam's wife living in Paris? How about Arafat's wife? Why do you make deals with Iran, Iraq, Syria? You are not our friend. Friends don't stab friends in the back."

Good points.

4:05 PM PST is 7:05 EST, NOT "1:05" -- so, wouldn't be schedule to land yet.

Doh! I stand corrected.

It would be interesting if those planes were due to arrive at LAX on Christmas Day. I wonder if AQ's plan is to attack on that day.

Thanks for adding some actual news to the thread; I appreciate it. It is interesting that they can't comment on the nature of the threat at this time.

Just came across this:

The current US passport population stands at 18% of US adults. Source : European Travel Commission. Recent research indicating that Britain is the most popular overseas destination (excluding Canada & Mexico) for US residents. Source: Travel Industry World Yearbook 2000. The top cities for passport ownership are: New York, 38%; San Francisco, 37%; Miami/Fort Lauderdale, 33%; West Palm Beach, 31%; San Diego, 29%; Los Angeles, 27%; Washington DC, 27%. Fox reporting the Homeland Security has issued a statement saying due to the heightened alert and nature of the security issues involved, they cannot elaborate at this time on details of what their concerns precisely were/are.

Spokesperson on CNN indicated they're still concerned about flights from Mexico.

BINGO.

"Perhaps they were aiming for British targets"

Polar route trucks up over UK and Scotland, Greenland, Canada to US.

I recall the Lockerbie (sp) crash was over Scotland and premature...the towel heads got the timer wrong as was supposed to go down over the sea.

air france and Delta are partners (while anyone would want to partner with anything-french is beyond me).

because the rest of the world follows the same idiotic flight rules that we enforce here (no outside carriers flying between cities). Air France is one of the largest airlines in the world, Delta's partnership with them gives them access to places they couldn't ordinarily reach.

Most major U.S. airlines partner with European carriers:
- United/Luftansa/SAS
- American/British Airways
- Northwest/KLM
- Delta/Air France

There have been efforts to modernize air travel rules, but I can't imagine that given the current situation we're ready to allow foriegn carriers to fly between U.S. cities.

Geez...wonder if this guy is one of JohnGalt's alter egos on FR ...he sure likes to throw that phrase "neocon" around and brag about what how much more conservative he is than anyone on the board, he even mentioned the Wolfowitz debacle that JG brought up yesterday. JG actually called me a liberal and accused me of working for the Dems because he insists there are no WMD and my sources are all "tin foil", he even called David Kay a phoney.

The UK could have been targets or as Shermy has been waring us for awhile, Rome and the Vatican could be targets.

Those transpolar flights are big planes with a lot of jet fuel. They could strike anywhere on the Euro Continent, Israel, the UK or the US. Even without fuel, traveling at over 500 mph, with their weight, that would a hell of big projectile with a lot of kinetic energy on impact.
