The Morgan County Citizen JANUARY 15, 2004 Cain brings message to Morgan County

BY MEREDITH CLELAND

U.S. Senate candidate Herman Cain made a stop in Madison on Monday night and addressed a record crowd of members of the Morgan County Republican Party.

A native of Atlanta and former chief executive officer of Godfather’s Pizza, Cain promised to replace the tax code, restructure Social Security and improve health care. And he wants to be the first African-American Senator from Georgia to do so.

Campaigning for the Senate seat being vacated by retiring Senator Zell Miller, Cain will work to change these problems based on three ideals taught by his father, a man who worked as a janitor, chauffeur and barber to reach his American dream of owning a house. Cain used his father’s teachings of belief in God, belief in yourself and belief in the United States of America for 35 years in corporate America.

Cain stated that he does not want to reform the present tax code, but replace it.

"Every time they work to simplify it, it gets worse," Cain said. "You won’t hear me say reform or overhaul, but replace."

Cain wants not an income tax, but a national sales tax on new goods and services that, he said, would generate the same amount of revenue. "It is a tax not on what we earn, but what we spend," Cain said.

Secondly, Cain stated the need to restructure the social security structure by allowing citizens to set up a personal retirement account, with parts of their salary put into their own personal account. "That way, when you retire, you will have a lot more money than you have now," Cain said. People who currently draw social security will continue to do so, and by the year 2075, the system would be completely switched over.

"If you die, [the money] goes to your family, not the government," Cain said. "And if you retire, it goes to you, not the government."

Finally, Cain emphasized the issue of "reversing the direction we’re going in respect to health care." He opposes the government dictating what hospital or doctor that a patient can use. "They want a one-size fits all health care system," he said.

Cain did not avoid the fact that he has no experience in the political arena.

"You should support me because I’m not a professional politician, I’m a professional problem solver," Cain said. "Herman Cain is a believer. I believe we can change Washington, D.C."

Hosted by the Morgan County Young Republicans, the meeting was also attended by dignitaries such as State Representative John Douglas (R-73), University of Georgia and Georgia Technological Institute College Republicans and Georgia Senate candidate Johnny Grant.

I like what I have read about this man so far. If I lived in Georgia I would certainly consider very seriously supporting him in his election bid. As I learn more, I might donate to his campaign anyway.

Music to my ears...we need people like Cain to sell this to the American people...

The donations would not be a bad idea since he would represent the values of most FReepers at a national level.

It would be awesome for the birthplace of Dr. Martin Luther King, to send Herman Cain to Washington.

I've not talked to Mr. Cain yet, but I'm looking forward to the opportunity. As it stands now, he's my man in the Senatorial race.

Black conservative ping

If you want on (or off) of my black conservative ping list, please let me know via FREEPmail. (And no, you don't have to be black to be on the list!)

Extra warning: this is a high-volume ping list.

Isakson has a strong lead in the money race, so Cain is going to need all the help he can get. But the word about Cain is spreading fast, and again, he can use all the help he can get. Please tell any and all of your Georgia friends to take a look at Cain!
