Police say they don't know why parents insist on keeping loaded guns in unlocked drawers or on shelves and tabletops at home.

But beginning this fall, Apache Junction police hope to get the message about gun safety out to parents with a voice they may be willing to listen to: their own child.

"I think all guns should be locked up."

Maybe the nice officer should stop flaunting his Glock and leave it locked up when he goes to work tomorrow. Odds are he isn't going to need it, anyway.

If we can save one child, the program is worth it.

And if one child's life is lost because the gun cannot be easily accessed by his/her parent in defense of their family, how would they describe the program?

"...and teach the children not to play with loaded guns"

I agree 100%! Educate the kids to be Gun-Proof.

My house is not Gun-Proof. But my kids are almost Gun-Proof.

It is a continuing education.

QUESTION: Why do adults keep guns out in the open?

So my children can use them if necessary!

"So my children can use them if necessary!"

Yep, I have a Gun Vault by my bed that has a combination code.

I have my kids occasionally practice by opening the vault after I give a code word and then the combination.

(I then of course change the combination)

My kids are not completely Gun-proofed yet.

I am one of those evil parents. I have an old unloaded pellet gun (yes, haha. it's my dad's. my brother-in-law borrowed my .22) We have had some old swords and the pellet gun up on top of a high cupboard in our upstairs office. My children must be really weird according these people, because they have never even tried to reach those things. They are more likely to try get into the my husband's miniatures, which are actually in the cupboard.

The focus is to teach students to hold their own parents responsible.

Children DONT TELL parents what to do.

They should NOT be TAUGHT to question their parents authority (this is how/where it starts) by liberal, social-engineering, under-worked but over-paid, dim-witted "teachers".

These people are Nazis.

I live in rural Alaska - Bear country.

My kids may have need of a gun on occasion.

They shoot well!

Maybe if the police weren't so busy trying to obstruct citizen carry (not to mention hassling open carriers), more people would have their guns on belt holsters at home, instead of leaving them unattended at home.

A: We've had a couple people call the district and ask why the police want to find out how many guns they have in their homes. They say what they have in their house is their business. We're not saying you can't have guns, we're saying that you need to step up to the plate as a parent and be responsible. . . Don't worry, it'll be a AT LEAST another couple of years before we try to take them away.

Q: Why do people think that way? A: We live in a society built on fear. One incident happens someplace and it gets fueled. There's a fear factor of what could happen here.

Well, it isn't *your* decision anyway, turdmunch.

That issue was settled at Yorktown.
