Many House critics of the Bush immigration plan said privately that the proposal was created to win Mr. Bush a larger share of the Hispanic vote in November and to mollify Mexican President Vicente Fox.What evidence do they have that he is going to gain any significant votes? Mexican socialists are never going to support the small-government, nationalistic version of the Republicans.

Yep... do you vote for the guy who gives you a million dollars or do you vote for the guy who gives you 2 million dollars? No matter what Bush comes out with, the Dems will top it.

I've said this all along. Mexicans are not going to vote for Bush; they will vote for whomever is the biggest socialist. Moreover, even if they achieve American citizenship, their allegiance will still be to Mexico, and they will vote for whomever and whatever best benefits Mexico. The only "hispanic" group that will vote for Bush is the Cubans, and he already had their support.

Precisely. Which means that Bush didn't propose his immigration reform plan for political expedient reasons.
