David Brooks' biting wit shows what a hypocrite Kerry is when he rails about "special interests" at the same time he's getting in bed with them.

Bill Keller is one smart liberal.
As I wrote in my blog (clic the pic to read), Keller took a chance and put a conservative on the Op-Ed page. Raines wouldn't have had the intellectual integrity to do this. Keller does, though he is as doctrinaire a liberal as was Raines. David Brooks has become the columnist to read in the NYT, instantly placing in his shadow the obsessed Krugman, the pompous Friedman, and the flighty Dowd.
Only Safire can hold a candle to Brooks' prose.
The Dems are very concerned about this. This is the NYT OpEd page saying that its okay to start looking at Kerry's swag from China and other places.

Like Safire, David Brooks is not a conservative on some issues. Safire is pro-abortion, and I believe David Brooks is pro-abortion too. But like Safire, Brooks can write a great column once in a while. (Think of Safire's memorable comment some years ago that hillary is a "congenital liar." Safire may have only attacked the clintons once or twice a year, but when he did, it bit.)
This is just about the best Brooks op-ed I have seen. Beautiful. It will be some time before people forget this one.
