And some helicopters. There's a Mi-24 Hind-A fixer-upper available at another E-Bay auction.

I got to see one of these about 1989 or so. The tail boom had US ARMY stenciled on it on 3 inch letters. Heh Heh Heh.

Long ago, I was with several other GI's visiting a British tank company of the British Army of the Rhine. With great hulking Chieftain tanks. We were in their motor pool, more or less unattended, and noone was around. We found some stencilboard, and some white paint, and by way of repaying our hosts fine hospitality, neatly stenciled *U.S. Army* and painted large white stars on either side of the turret and the front armor right in front of the driver. Up the Yanks!

Sailors? You should be hanging out reputable types. Like Airmen!

If it moves salute it. If it doesn't, paint it.

There are more than a few tankers, former tank crew, and other treadheads around here as well.

If it moves, run over it. If it doesn't move knock it down. Then shoot it up, or shoot it up first, then run over it.

Afterward, refuel, reload ammo, and pull maintenance till you can't see what you're doing. Repeat as needed, day after day.

You need to have a gunsmith place an order for a few thousand with SIG. Then call back in 24 hours and cancel "because my customer heard your customer service dept. sucks."

ATTABOY! A fine display of repaying your hosts fine hospitality. Especially, because the stenciling was neatly done.

Yeah, but getting them to salute decently would've been like herding cats....

Nothing in the 1st link about the Lockheed P-3C Orion that was captured by the Chinks.

Also, I wonder what the $ cost is in all those crashes.

Yes, military aircraft are not issued certificates from the FAA, but you don't need a "type" rating for a F-18.
All you need is a Private Pilot, Multi-Engine, Land, Limited Centerline Thrust license.

Here is a picture of #1 in her original first paint, from 1987. CDR Gil Rud was her first pilot. Rud went on to command both a carrier and TopGun, and now works for Boeing in the Super Hornet program.

is that the plane for sale? ... I got to see them pretty close (closer than they allow now) at two shows around 1985 and 1986 or so ... maybe 1987 ... I wonder if that plane was flying then ... both times were at Richards-Gebaur home of the 442md (?) A-10 wing in those days ...

at another show they were flying that white F-15 with the canards and red and blue stripes IIRC ... I've never seen another Eagle painted that way ...

Had to be 87. The Blues were still in the A-4 in 86. Gil Rud handled the transistion to the Hornet. That is the one.
