Principal Nancy Pitcher thinks the policy offers students ample opportunities to use the bathroom. She said it was a necessary step to guarantee the safety of her students and encourage learning. The high school implemented a similar system the previous year.

"We wanted some control of students in terms of who was going in and out of the bathrooms," she said. "The students have 15 opportunities out of 20 to 22 days in the month to use the bathroom pass, and another 15 to go wherever else they need to go. That is quite a few times."

Is she willing to stick to that schedule herself?

Once again everyone has to pay for all the abusers. Of course, teachers know who the abusers are but can't "bathroom" profile.

This is leaving class to go to the bathroom. Not between classes and lunch. Kindergarten through college, I can't remember a single occasion when I had to leave class to pee. If you're leaving class three times a day for it, I'd have to agree a doctor's visit is in order.

You have to remember, the people running the schools now were the sixties types who signed up for those pie Ed classes because they couldn't cut it in real college.

They had to stay in college, or they would have had to serve in the armed forces (read, do their civic duty).

They have since destroyed all real schools because they're fundamentally stupid and have no sense of honor.

Girls just learning to manage their periods sometimes need to be excused several times in one day!

Don't remember any problems when I went to school. Getting a hallway pass to use the bathroom was a rare occurence. Lunchtime and recess seemed to provide sufficient opportunities to use the bathrooms. Fifteen passes a month seems out of hand. I don't think I had to leave class to use the bathrrom that many times in 12 years of school.

What has changed?

I can't recall a single time when I had enough time to exchange/juggle books and classes on opposite sides of the building AND take care of feminine hygiene between classes.

THis is a bad plan on so many levels. It's outrageous.

The school's approach is silly, but how many kids need to leave class more than fifteen times a month for bathroom breaks? I don't recall ever having to leave class.

And one wonders what they will tell the girls who get their periods? HARD for adolescents to tell when it will come at that age!

I can think of fewer things more mortifying than having an "accident" and not being able to handle it discretly at that age!

This is in response to a few kids abusing bathroom breaks. Jeez, did you REALLY need to leave class more than 15 times a month to go to the potty?

You have a break before the class, a 50 minute class and a break afterward. How many students REALLY need to go to the bathroom once every 25 minutes?

When I was in school, if you said you needed to go to the bathroom, the teacher let you go. I never asked unless it was a real request.

However, if you got caught going somewhere else the teacher didn't trust you in the future.
