you give anti depressants to people who are depressed.

Depressed patients kill themselves.

Ergo it is the anti depressant medications--not.

Actually, you see a higher rate of suicide in teens given antidepressants than in those not given them (that is, teens who are suicidal commit suicide more than teens who are not suicidal even when they take medications)...

But the REAl story is that the suicide rate is down in ALL teenagers, probably because we are treating depression whereas ten or twenty years ago we do not.

I use anti depressants in menopausal ladies all the time (if hormones, herbs and vitamins didn't help their mood swings), but try to avoid using them in teens, explaining that they have to learn how to cope with life's problems without medications. About half come back after counselling and don't need medicine, and about half ask for them.
