Santorum is usually pretty good and reliable. Specter has to be on good behavior because he's trying to stay in office one more term.

Dan, you're always welcome to move to PA. CCW = $19 for five years. A background check, but no fingerprints. Can carry anywhere except courthouse and some public facilities. No training requirements. Lot of ranges and progun groups.

And it's closer to DC so you can go to CPAC with ease.

RE:

"Well, if that antique is your idea of a hunting rifle, I'm pretty sorry for you. "

Look down your elitist and superior nose at that old No. 4 Mk.I Enfield all you like, MM - but those old .303s have probably flattened a lot more men and venison over the past 60 years or so than your snazzy and expensive Match rifle has ever seen or even thought about.

They may not win a lot of 600 yd. matches or have a reputation for stellar accuracy, but the Russians sure learned a healthy respect for them during their expeditionary ventures in Afghanistan not all that long ago.
And that from the hands of untrained savages half-blinded by the sun and sand who probably hadn't cleaned the old relics in about 30 years!

The Enfield or "SMLE" was one of the most reliable, toughest, and battle-worthy Infantry weapons ever developed, with one of the fastest and smoothest bolt-actions ever made. You might be surprised at how fast a trained Rifleman can get those 10 rounds in the magazine off - accurately.
A U.S. Army Rifle team during WW-II had their hat handed to them at least once by a British Team using these "antiques" - while the GI's were shooting M-1 Garand Semi-automatics!

And if you put that .303 in the right place, which a decent old SMLE will do reliably within average deer ranges of 75-100 meters or so, it will do the job just fine, thank you very much.

And I daresay it will take a lot more weather and hardscrabble field knockabouts while romping about the boonies, and still come up deadly when it needs to, than most custom "target" rifles will.

PRESERVING OUR FREEDOM

This letter deals with Bill Clinton's (expletive deleted) so called "assault rifle" ban which is set to expire in September of this year, and which certain "socialist" politicians are trying desperately to reinstate, along with further infringements on our Second Amendment rights. I believe it's imperative that we all do what we can in order to prevent this from succeeding, and that nothing is more critical to the preservation of all of our other freedoms, and our quality of life, that this. If this action consists of simply forwarding this letter to people on your contact list, then you've already done your part.

As a matter of explanation, as a refugee from the "great socialist utopia" of Canada, whom the Bill & Hillary Clintons', Albert Gore's, Diane Feinstein's, John Kerry's etc., of this country so worship and admire. Also, as one who has spend 37 years of his life watching the progress, and living with the end result, of what these politicians are trying to accomplish in this country, i can give you several ironclad promises and guarantees.

Firstly: Everything that these politicians and their compatriots have ever told you about Canada is a lie and a fairy tale. If you're still inclined to believe these lies, then talk to some people who have actually lived there in the last few years.

Secondly: These politicians are not who they pretend to be. Their only purpose in life is to establish absolute power and control over your life, and the excuse of gun control is their primary means of achieving this. Their entire political philosophy is a lie. The great promise of Socialism to establish complete equality among all of the people can only be achieved if a small group of people is given absolute power in order to regulate the lives of the majority under them. This in effect establishes a feudal system of Lords and Serfs, with these socialist politicians as the Lords, and you as the Serfs. In any free society, where people are simply left alone, one person will work harder than the other, and in the end establish a better life for himself, with varying degrees of success for all, and you will generally get out of your life, what you put into it. This is as and how it should be, and where freedom exists, it can be no other way. I know these politicians far too well, and I have spent 37 years of my life listening to the same stories they tell are telling you here and now. I can promise you that their only purpose in attempting to establish this power and control over your life, is so that they can bully, control, and victimize you at will, for no other reason that that it will make them "FEEL" like a "REAL BIG" man or woman in order to be able to do so. Since their kind, are all cowards, they need to take away your guns because they don't want you to be able to do anything about it. This is compulsive behavior, to which there is no logic or reason. I would compare their motivations to this end, to that of sex and a 14 year old boy, in that until he finally manages to experience it for the first time, and realizes that the world will still be the same the next day as it was the day before, it's pretty much all that he will think about. These people generally achieve their power (votes), by making promises to people, who are too naïve to question their motives, or who are generally too stupid or too lazy to think for themselves, which they willingly offer to do for them, provided that these people give them the power to do so. If these politicians, and their political philosophy do not constitute "Satan's Religion" I don't know what would.

Thirdly: Each and every one of your freedom's, will last only as long as your ability to defend them, and not one minute longer. Those of you who think the banning of things like the, so called "Assault Rifle" is of no consequence to you, because it doesn't interfere with your hunting rights, think again. The Second Amendment was put into the Constitution for one reason, and one reason only, and it has nothing to do with hunting. The Second Amendment gives the people of this country the military capability to deal with any government who would abrogate the remaining rights and freedoms contained in the Constitution. Thereby guaranteeing that no government, regardless of what else they do, will inflict sufficient hardship on the people in order to make this necessary. In fact our government has been severely derelict in it's duty in that it has not organized and trained the population of this country into the Militia's required by the Constitution, in order to make them a more effective force against all enemies of our constitution, both domestic and foreign. The single and only effect of any ban on "Assault Weapons" is to reduce the military effectiveness of the population of our country, in order to allow the perpetrators to move one step closer to the absolute control and domination of your lives.

Fourthly: The excuse of using gun control to reduce crime is the greatest of myths. I actually talked to a woman today who had been told by these same socialist politicians that there was no crime in Canada, because they had gun control over there. I promptly informed her that the city of Winnipeg, where I am from, averages around 30 murders a year, not to mention rapes, burglaries, and whatever other crimes are taking place at any given time. This may not seem like a lot of murders for any one city, but keep in mind that there are only 500,000 people in Winnipeg. Compare this to the murder rates of US cities with populations into the multiple millions, and divide this murder rate per capita, and figure it out. For a kid to get a job at a Seven Eleven store in Winnipeg was pretty much considered a death sentence. The kid would generally last a week or two before some scumbag would come into the store and stick a knife in her, or shoot her with his "illegal" gun, and grab the 40 bucks in the till, which she hadn't put into the floor safe yet. The level of poverty in this city was so great though, that these kids would still work at these places, knowing full well what the likely outcome might be, not to mention the scumbag who was willing to kill someone for a miserable 40 bucks. Solving crime with gun control ?. "BULLSHIT" !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Recently, in the city of Edmonton, Alberta, an electronics store owner, who had been plagued by nightly break ins, decided to spend the night in his shop with his shotgun. During the course of that night, there was another break in, and the shop owner exercised what is currently the right of every American today, and he fired on the burglars in defense of his property, and possibly person as well. He wounded one of the burglars, all of which fled. The shop owner knew better than to report the incident, but the police caught the wounded burglar at a hospital where he went for treatment. The police then proceeded to forego all charges against the burglar, in exchange for him testifying against the shop owner, so that they could get him on charges of possession of an unregistered weapon, and using deadly force in defense of property. The burglar is back on the street and the shop owner will most likely get a sentence of 25 years or more. The bottom line of this is, that the shop owner was regarded as a threat to the power of the socialist government and it's Gestapo, as he was willing to take measures to defend his rights, and the burglar wasn't.

Lastly: If through our own ignorance and stupidity, we allow these socialist politicians to achieve their ultimate objectives, this will be the end result, which i have lived and experienced first hand. The only thing you will have left to look forward to in life is your own death, as then you will finally be free from the tyrant. Until then, your only purpose in life will be to serve your socialist masters, and this will be in their interest and not yours. If you are allowed enough success in life under this system in order to make your life bearable, it will only be the result of belonging to the right family, kissing the right asses, pretending to be a "good little communist", and possibly helping these people to enforce their power over the rest of the population, which will be at the cost of your soul. Any such success you are allowed will also be minimal at best. Your children will curse you for having brought them into this world, which is also why I have never had any children of my own. Now that I am out of that wonderful place I am too old, and with my wife it is no longer possible to have children, but she has given me two wonderful kids and grandkids whom I love as my own, so I seem to have gotten the best of both after all.

Some of you may, or may not, at some time have felt the need to own a gun for protection against crime, and when these politicians get their way, you will still have this need, only you won't be able to get one, at least not legitimately. Further to this, you will also need this same gun for protection from the police, as they will represent a far greater threat to your freedom and security than any criminal could ever hope to. Those of you who are not cowards and sycophants, if you value things like freedom and justice more than you value your own lives, and if you are resourceful enough, will either manufacture, or obtain illegally, the means to defend your freedom, and that of others. If you are able to do this, your life will be no better than it was before, but at least, the worst thing they will be able to do to you is kill you, and eventually, they will. I can think of no better or more honorable way to die than this, but i still think it would be infinitely preferable if we could all simply continue to enjoy the freedom and prosperity which we have today, and maybe even establish more of it, for ourselves and others, so that we could live long, fruitful, and productive lives, and all die in bed of old age.

In closing, I beg all of you to please do anything you can in order to help preserve the United States of America and the rights and freedoms it represents. This should begin with knowing the policies and the views of the people you are voting for, and not voting for those who would abrogate our freedoms. We also need to let our politicians know that any one who supports any measure designed to limit our ability to defend our freedom and security as individuals, will no longer have our votes. We also need to educate those individuals, who don't understand the consequences of the actions being taken against their freedom. We need to be prepared to provide resistance, by whatever means, to the destruction of our freedom, before such a time as effective resistance is no longer possible. The step by step destruction of freedom, which has happened in the rest of the world, is most certainly happening here. Only in this country it is taking slightly longer, because of our Constitution, political structure, and most importantly, that the people still have a significant capability to defend their freedom should it be required. It is only because of organizations like the National Rifle Association (who in my opinion still don't really understand the full gravity of the consequences if they should fail), and the few politicians we have, who actually put the interests and freedom of the people, before their own desire for power, that any of us have any freedom at all. It is absolutely imperative that we keep what freedom we have instead of throwing it way for some lie and fairy tale that can never exist. We have the only country in the left in the world where there is a sufficient degree of freedom and prosperity in order to make life a worthwhile thing. Those of you who have been told things are better elsewhere, please believe me, this is as good as it gets, and coming from where I came from, I regard this country as close to an earthly paradise as anything I could imagine. I sincerely hope that we can keep it this way, and maybe make it even better. I will finish this email with a quotation (translated from the original German), which will sound very familiar to all of you, as you have heard something similar many times, but you'll never guess who it came from:

"This year will go down in history. For the first time, a civilized nation has full gun registration. Our streets will be safer, our police more efficient, and the world will follow our lead into the future"

Adolf Hitler, 1935

For those who would like to believe that democracy will protect you, keep in mind that Adolf Hitler was voted into power. Within a year, he had accomplished the foregoing, which led to gun confiscation, after which there were no more elections, and after with he proceeded to round up all of the Jews, and anyone else he hated, or regarded as a threat to his power in order to send them to the gas chamber. He could do this because he was the only one left with a gun.

I support your good points, but it is worth taking this out of the message, as it has been found to be untrue, and has been identified as such by the JPFO.

$19 for 5 years and no prints? Damn that sounds good - instead of over $100, plus the training course.(over $100 although I do support voluntary training). It's part of the price of being the first post Columbine CCW state)

My options open up this summer or fall when I FINALLY finish my degree(I finally went back to school last summer).

I'd like to stay and continue my fight up here where I have a lot of options and close friends that will go and have gone to bat for me. Being a life long resident in my county(outside some college time), I also have an option to run for a small office here which I wouldn't have in another state.

But if the $$$$ and/or location is right I may pack up and become a 'reverse flatlander'.(Instead of one of those that brings the city with them when they move out - I'd be the opposite)

The 1928 German gun law required gun licensing and registration --- and was made law several years before Hitler got in power in 1933.

"Perhaps but it is still the Nazi Germany legislation that has been copied by gun=control advocates."

The 1938 Nazi gun law is very similar to the 1968 U.S. gun law.

Senator Thomas Dodd had the Library of Congress translate a German copy of the 1938 Nazi gun law, prior to passage of the 1968 U.S. gun law.

A copy of the letter from the Library of Congress to Senator Dodd is reproduced in "Gun Control" - Gateway to Tyranny, by Jay Simkin and Aaron Zelman.

I personally stand by your ability to "choose" which works best for you.............if the AR was something I went thru the service with and understand it's operation and maintenance would you not agree that in a semi auto configuration that rifle would or should be my choice ? The AR is not my choice but the AWB is cosmetic at best. Shallow POS law......

Stay Safe !

Good points..... My post to mineral man was that his choices are best for him the AR might be best for others. If he allows others to make the choice for you that says no to an AR then at some point the same incrementalism will make his choices for him . We either all stand togeather or fall individually.

I respect both of your choices as that is what works best for each of you. I believe our location, environment, individual needs, skills and experience drives the selection process for individual small arms for collecting, competition, self defense , harvesting game and maintaining the capability to fullfill the original intent of the 2nd Amendment if ever called upon to do so.

My Key point is to not let some seditious POS socialist make that decision for you........Be they dressed as RINO or RAT !

Stay safe !
