With regards to your question on were the Republican leadership is. That is simple they are still of the opinion that Democrats are a loyal opposition who love the Constitution. They also suffer from the idea that if they are nice to the talking heads & the democrats in the congress that they will be liked by these vermin .

Not entirely - the RATs controlled this little fiasco and played the Repubos like a fiddle - just like they have been doing since 2000. The Senate is George Bush' nemesis, and it will continue to be so unless the '04 elections sway the balance of power to the Repubos - which may not be too likely. One thing is certain -Frist needs to step down as majority leader.

You must be laboring under the delusion that these lawsuits have been effective against manufacturers. They haven't. RATS just delayed making it almost impossible but have not "won" anything. Two more RAT Senator losses and the amendments will not pass. Fitzdumbass will not return from Il. so his replacement could be more reliable on this issue.

The AWB does not "sunset" until September 04..

The amendment to S.1805 does place the continuance of the AWB in jeapordy, but a seperate bill to extend AWB could still be introduced..
Additionally, a new AWB (with expanded powers) could still be introduced between now and Sept. 04..

You know, I am just floored by this...

Why would you go to the trouble of attaching an amendment to a bill, get it approved...The entire bill goes to a vote, then vote against the whole thing???

Maybe I am not seeing it, but this is not making a bit of sense...

But I see that the 8 Senators who did vote for this as a whole, are probably going to be long gone come November, we can only hope...

Something smells really bad here...I am wondering are we going to be in for a surprise here somewhere down the road before September 13th, at midnight???

I don't agree .. I think it was a set-up by the repubs.

The repubs wanted a clean bill. First they had to kill the bill with the amendments. They did! Now they can start over with a clean bill - after the November elections, when they can get it through the senate - clean!!

The rats think they defeated us - when in reality I believe the repubs have just pulled off a coup against the dems.

And .. the repubs have put the dems ON THE CONGRESSIONAL RECORD FOR BEING AGAINST UNFAIR GUN LAWSUITS, and voting against the bill they had loaded with amendments. This is just too cool.

Illinois is dominated by Chiagao and its suburbs.

Fitzgerald will probably be replaced by a RAT. No net loss on 2A, but a loss on judges.

GOP needs to sweep the seats in the South (FL, NC, SC, GA, and LA) to ensure this bill can pass without poison pills. I also think Daschle is going to have some trouble. Yeah, he co-sponsored, but he tried to have it both ways.

The other lesson is NOT to let thrid-party types draw you away. Slade Gorton was reliably pro-gun, but Maria Cantwell beat him because too many folks decided Gorton wasn't "principled" enough and went third-party in 2000. I'd rather have Ensign defending a seat this year as opposed to doing so in 2006 due to third-party votes as well. And there is the issue of John Thune vs. Tim Johnson in 2002.

I'm with you! All I can figure is that each honorable lunkerhead can now go tell their constituents that they voted such and such. Many of them will be able to tell one group that they were for and another group that they were against.
