Jack Ryan is a conservative who understands trade. He's going to be the GOP nominee for US Senate in Illinois, and might just pull off a win!

Jack Ryan supports closing the "loophole" that allows private citizens to sell firearms

On gun control, Ryan said he generally doesn't favor more laws. But he said he supports closing the so-called "gun show loophole" if background checks could be done instantly. And Ryan said he'd be willing to revisit the federal ban on assault weapons.

Jack Ryan supports closing the "loophole" that allows firearm manufacturers to "get around" the "assault weapons" ban

"I'll be totally open in considering that, if it focuses on the function of the weapon," Ryan said. "If it focuses on how fast does it shoot, what kind of ammunition does it shoot - that I think is good legislation. If it's like, what does the gun look like, it's too easy to get around that stuff."

It will be interesting to see how much likewarm support the so called "conservatives" here give him. I've heard lots of them supporting the Democratlite Republican candidates.

I talked Monday with GOP front-runner Ryan (no relation to that former governor) and asked him to explain how his free-market ideology will create jobs in the Rock River Valley that pay enough to feed, clothe and house families.

"Free market" - translating...not trade with countries we have free trade treaties with, but "free" transfer of assets and jobs to protectionist countries like India and China.

The lies continue, getting bigger and bigger...

Is it too much to ask our candidates to stand up and say it should be illegal for rape victims to turn on another innocent and butcher a child?

WELCOME TO FR. Are you just here to bash Jack or what?

Only one candidate in the race does not support the rape exception, Jonathan Wright, and he is near last in the polls. I don't like it, but I'll take 99% correct and run with it.

What's wrong with instant background checks? Do you prefer waiting a couple days?

Clancy is visionary -- Ryan's just catching up to the literature.

Hopefully ALL Clancy's scenarios won't come true; at least we avoided Red Storm Rising.

“Those are the policies that started the Great Depression. We don’t want to go there again,” Ryan said.

By regurgitating this revisionist propaganda, Ryan destroys any credibility he may have had.

Jack Ryan -- remember the name. If he's elected, he will rise faster in the GOP than anyone you can remember. He will be a candidate in 2008 for the presidency.

Why is it that when I state facts about one of our candidates

Who are you supporting, then? It would have to be Jonathan Wright.

Illinois Federation for Right-to-Life has endorsed Jack Ryan, Steve Rauschenberger, and Andy McKenna.

" 'Those are the policies that started the Great Depression. We don’t want to go there again,' Ryan said."

Sorry, but that's just flat out wrong. That's the old "Smoot-Hawley" canard, which has been disproven about a thousand times now, but that doesn't keep the free trade uber alles crowd from repeating it over and over again!

If you want a real education about the actual causes of the Great Depression, just google up the phrase "great myths of the great depression", which is an article posted at the mackinac institute, and written by Lawrence W. Reed.

I am just so tired of the same old "Smoot-Hawley" argument being hauled out time and time again. It is wrong, and it needs to be done away with forever. It's the economic equivalent of claiming the world is flat, it's just utter nonsense.

You can't defend Ryan's ludicrous assertions about the Great Depression, can you JohnnyZ?
Gotta resort to personal attacks as usual. I'm not surprised one bit.
