[history]
Among those who apparently didn't listen to the 43-year-old unemployed woman whose recorded message was posted online last week by The Republic were Arizona's Jon Kyl and John McCain, along with 24 of their Senate colleagues, all of them collecting fat government paychecks.

That's what I thought ....That's your judgement.
BTW, your background doesn't qualify for what we are looking for.

"Then why bring them up?"Because it makes more sense than your posts to me. Had you read my earlier posts you would know I've run my own business for over 30 years. Your first question "do you have a job" which, quite frankly, is none of your business. Whether I live off inherited wealth, years of establishing a business or back breaking day to day labor is totally irrelevent to this conversation. Yet, you interject with the intent to insult. Does that make you feel good?

its a wide range of things: customer support, programming, backoffice jobs, accounting. Large companies now have teams which are peeling apart their organizations to see what work can be done outside the US, across he board. Once the Indians get better at understanding the US operations they are working to support, they will branch out into other engineering roles as well.

See my 232. Posted that before I saw you were on the thread. Am amazed that people can be so cruel. I kinda hope life catches up with Texasforever, and he can sample some of the pain that he so freely mocks in others.

the component of manufacturing replaced by technology and automation is a normal progression of the industry; otherwise everyone would still be working on farms.

Good grief! I'm happy to find someone with some levity! After skimming this thread I was just about to slash my wrist! Ive never seen so many fatalists in one place. Fear! What is it good for? Absolutely nothing!

There will be no stopping outsourcing totally, but some laws can affect it. For example, restrictions on government contracts. It makes little sense to give a company like Sprint a 100 million dollar contract and then have them set up the work to be done in India. As a taxpayer, that money should be circulated here. In return, lessen restrictions here in the US. The carrot-carrot approach.
BTW - Kerry is laughable when he talks about this because the Heinz corp. has sent their jobs mostly overseas too.

I know one person who has lost a job and she worked for an airline. She's now training to be a paralegal (airline is paying). The company my husband works for is STILL looking for decent people. I had two FReepers contact me for information about sending a resume. Neither ever sent a resume in.
I think we do have some economic problems in this country. But I have to admit, it isn't happening to anyone I know.

I want to apologize for being rude, but you really are belittling a job that's very skilled. It's not just operator calls. It's actual handling complex issues.

I wonder how much of this problem is due to age discrimination in the workplace. I've always heard that they want to push out people over age 50. But now they're trying to push out everybody over age 40. The people that you hear screaming about job loss and outsourcing tend to be 40 and over.

Oh, great. Thanks a whole lot. Now I'm going to be having that scene from Rush Hour 1 ($14.99 at Walmart), running through my mind all evening. My wife and I just watched it last night (on our $89.99 DVD player, Best Buy), snacking on popcorn (made in our Chinese slave labor manufactered microwave, U.S. Air Force exchange, $102...okay, we went for a nice one).
Of course I could put on the sound track ($9.24, Fred Myers) on my stereo (Japanese, Sam's Club, $169.99) or just try to forget it and pet my cat ($12, pound...but she looks kind of Asian).
Decisions. I guess I'll have a Mexican beer and try to decide.

It is clear to me from reading Tfover that life has already caught up with and passed by tfover. Monty22 on the other hand sounds like some one I like to have a few beers with.
