Ah, a Tactical Custom II. Gorgeous weapon.

As coincidence would have it, I just bought one two weeks ago. Picked it up after a 2-day waiting period, took it home, and was field-stripping it when I discovered the ambidextrous safety was defective. Operating the right-side level caused the safety to malfunction [failed to clear the slide on the left side], then after a few clicks, it would separate, then eventually the left half of the safety falls out of the frame! The right side would have too, except that it has a 'finger' that rides behind the right grip, retaining it in the frame. I never even put a round in it, and there I am with a busted $1000 pistol!

I took it back to the shop the next day. They had another one in their showcase (a gold match-style model) with the exact same problem! Can't say this gives me much confidence in Kimber's quality control!

So I guess even Kimber makes a clinker (or clinkers) now and then. I have a replacement on order... I sure hope it's built better than the first one! It is a beautiful piece. My brother-in-law has one, and it handles fantastically for an aluminum-framed pistol. The accuracy out-of-the-box was outstanding, as was the trigger feel & pull weight.

* A side note for those with aluminum-framed 1911s... if you use magazines that have flat followers, similar to like these:
... then this forum thread is required reading.
