HAMAS political chief Khaled Meshaal today called on his group's members in Gaza to promptly select a new leader, but without disclosing his name.
His comments came after the death of Abdelaziz Rantissi who was killed by Israel this morning.
"Select a leader for the movement in Gaza to replace our brother, martyr and fighter Abdel Aziz Rantissi, but do not disclose his name," Meshaal said in an interview with the Qatar-based Arab satellite television al-Jazeera.
Meshaal also accused "the US administration of giving its cover for the assassinations" of Rantissi and Hamas spiritual leader Sheikh Ahmed Yassin who was killed in an air strike in Gaza last month.
Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon was seeking to "eliminate" Hamas, he said, while insisting that the Islamic group "will not stop ... as this is the price of liberation".
The Israeli army confirmed it killed Rantissi in an air strike on his car in Gaza City.

Sounds like they're at least smartening up a little bit by keeping the new guy anonymous. Of course, that means the Israelis just need to kill more of them until they get the right guy. It's open season, let's get them, lads.

That means ANYBODY could be the one...so, of course, we should just take them all out! Can we start though with Arafatass?

How can they keep his name a secret? And if they do, will it matter? The "official" top position may be a secret, but the orders will have to come from somebody and the IDF has proven itself quite capable of following that chain as high as it needs to.

"Select a leader for the movement in Gaza to replace our brother, martyr and fighter Abdel Aziz Rantissi, but do not disclose his name,"... For maximum security, the new Hammas chief will be known only by his code name, "Chicken-Boy".

"The Israelis can always go after Khaled Meshaal." I was thinking along similar lines. If he is a "political leader" and he is advising Hamas to pick another terrorist leader, but keep it secret, he just volunteered to be the next splat.

I'm certain their Mossad will know who they choose.

It will be impossible to keep the new leader secret for long.

New Hamas leader to stay secret I'm sorry, I laughed. Out loud.
To: angkor
Hahaa! I don't know why, but when I read this I started laughing.
"Shhhh, don't tell anyone, but you're the new leader"!

Hey, let them go after Yassir since they are too cowardly to name their new leader. The Israelis will find out who the new guy is anyway.

Why hide in anonymity?

"Select a leader for the movement in Gaza to replace our brother, martyr and fighter Abdel Aziz Rantissi, but do not disclose his name," Meshaal said... This brings new meaning to the expression "whatever happened to good 'ol what's his name?"
To: angkor
Meshaal operates from the sanctuary of Syria. Taking him out will involve a wet op on Syrian soil, and I'm not sure if Sharon wants to do that just yet.
