Assassination violates law: Annan

UN Secretary General Kofi Annan today condemned Israel's assassination of Hamas leader Abdelaziz Rantissi, calling on the Israeli government to "immediately end" the practice of "extrajudicial killings".

Such killings, Annan said in a statement issued by his spokesman, "are violations of international law".

The spokesman said Annan was "apprehensive that such an action would lead to further deterioration of an already distressing and fragile situation" in the Middle East.

"The only way to halt an escalation in the violence is for Israelis and Palestinians to work towards a viable negotiating process aimed at a just, lasting and comprehensive settlement, based on the Quartet's Road Map," said Annan.

He referred to the road map for Middle East peace drawn by the United States, United Nations, European Union and Russia.

Rantissi was killed by an Israeli helicopter rocket attack on his car, less than a month after he succeeded Hamas founder and spiritual leader Sheikh Ahmed Yassin, who was assassinated in a similar Israeli attack in the Gaza Strip.

UN = United Nazis.

They condemn the victims, not the perpetrators.

Annan has body guards 24x7 to make sure no teenager with a bomb belt expresses a bias against his political theatre. He doesn't understand the root cause here.

But only when Jews kill Arabs. When Arabs kill Jews, it's honorable. /sarcasm.

Hamas has declared war on Israel, and Israel has declared war on Hamas.

Killing your enemy is never against "international law" even if there were such a thing. War is precisely what you have when normal law is insufficient to resolve a conflict. If "law" were relevant, it wouldn't be "war". War ends when a return to rule of law becomes possible, and that happens when those who are not satisfied with normal law have clearly won, or are clearly defeated, or are dead.

There is no law that both Hamas and the Israelis recognze that they are both willing to trust with their lives and futures. That leaves only war, and once you have arrived at war there is no alternative but to wage it and win it. Hamas has no interest in sharing this earth with Israel. Understanding that simple fact brings clarity. There is no second place here, it is all or extinction.

Exactly who passed this "law?" Does this "law" state that a government can not protect its citizens by killing people who have declared and are making war on it? I would like to what law book, I could look this law up in so that I might see if I think he is right? What are the penalties associate with breaking this "law?" Where are they listed?

If this law was not passed by a legislature, is it judge discovered "law?" If so, who were the judges that discovered this law? If so, is this then a tort or can judges internationally discover criminal law? If it is judge discoverd "law," who elected or what elected official oppointed these judges?

I love to know where self-defense is prohibited under international law. I think Kofi Annan's interpretation is its forbidden to Jews only.
