May 16, 2004 -- The disgraced editor axed by London's Daily Mirror after the paper published fake photos of Iraqi prisoner abuse is demanding nearly $1.8 million in compensation, it was reported today.
Piers Morgan expects the newspaper to honor his two-year contract despite the fact he was ousted for running photos of a soldier urinating on a prisoner and another striking an inmate with a gun, sources close to Morgan told London's Sunday Times.

I hope that he takes the Mirror to court for a long and expensive legal battle.
Then, he wins and the London's Daily Mirror has to pay his court costs and this sum he is asking for.
Piers Morgan was only doing the job, the publishers of the London's Daily Mirror who hired him wanted. That job, anything goes to get rid of GW and Tony.
Any pseudo writer for the NY Slimes, LA Slimes, Washington Compost, Newsweak or Slimes if they get fired for lying about GW, Rummy, the war in Iraq or some other sham, should be able to sue their employers for wrongful termination.
doesn't Rupert Murdoch own the Daily Mirror?
One would expect, as part of the contract to which the Daily Mirror and Piers Morgan were signees, that the editor take every precaution that items which get published have first been subjected to a certain amount of minimal background fact checking. After all, the holy calling of Journalism claims to be a profession, and the mark of a professional is some degree of competence.
This is simply egregious.
??? A NEWSPAPER EDITOR has a contract worth at least 1.8 million for 2 years??? I'm obviously in the wrong line of business!!!
No - Murdoch owns the Sun. The Daily Mirror is about the most far-left of the Brit tabloids.
They have to pay that much. Lying all of the time takes a serious physical toll on a person.
Just look at John Kerry's face.
