Gee - that's too bad about that Arabic note. Sheesh, accidents happen.

In retrospect, I can't be sure whether the language represented in Arabic script was Arabic or Farsi. Farsi uses the same script plus a few additional specialized characters. Time and additional knowledge/experience change your perception. If I encountered the same note today, it would be passed to DHS immediately.

I am hopelessly behind again (still caring for Mom, who is home from the hospital and doing quite well), so I have no idea if anyone has posted about this here since yesterday; so the following is a brief synopsis:

Pres. Bush flew into Nashville yesterday, landing at 12:45 p.m. (my parking lot at work is directly in the flight path, about a half mile from the runway, so I got a thrill watching Air Force One pass overhead about 300' up!) At approximately 2 pm, an American Airlines jet en route from Dallas to Boston was diverted to Nashville when a note was found in the lavatory stating that there was a bomb on board in cargo. The plane was evacuated, FBI, Homeland Security and local authorities were called in, the passengers were questioned, and the plane was searched. Today, an arrest was made: an off-duty flight attendant (the one who "found" the note) admitted planting it. The note stated (paraphrased): "There is a bomb on board this flight in cargo. LIVE SADDAM!"

The press conference this evening, announcing the arrest, said there was no terrorist connection.

A person relayed a story he or she heard from servers that actually waited on the two men for dinner Wednesday evening.

F.B.I. Issues and Retracts Urgent Terrorism Bulletin

WASHINGTON, May 28 - The F.B.I. issued an urgent bulletin to several cities on Friday that warned of the prospect of an imminent terrorist attack but retracted the alert hours later, after the intelligence proved unfounded, officials said.

The alert went to law enforcement officials in two or three cities to warn of intelligence that indicated the prospect of an attack in the next 24 hours, officials said. Officials would not give the names of the cities.

A federal official in New York, when asked about the warning, said he was unaware of the city's having received any such notification.

A law enforcement official at another city, who insisted that he and the city not be named, said authorities there had received a call late in the day from the Federal Bureau of Investigation with an alert on the possibility of an "imminent" attack there. Later, the FBI called to withdraw the warning. The official, citing questions about the credibility of the terrorist intelligence from the bureau, said, "It's getting harder and harder to defend them."

The bureau said that "given the potential imminence of the threat," it contacted the officials immediately, even as the reliability of the threat intelligence was being investigated. Further analysis found that "the original interpretation of imminence was unfounded" and that the potential target was probably outside the United States, the bureau said.

Some law enforcement officials described the alert as a draft, not to be disseminated. Other officials defended releasing the information.

"This was a threat that was serious and it was of concern," a senior law enforcement official said. "There was a simultaneous effort to vet the information and disseminate it to the proper people. You like to have the luxury of time, but sometimes you just don't."

Sleddy that is the way they are trying to paint it BUT- a Vancouver Sun reporter who was behind Police lines 150 yards downwind from the Bus felt an itching sensation and then her face swelled and she keeled over face first into the sidewalk, woke up in the hospital in great discomfort was quarantined and released two days later without a clue of what happened to her and no explanation given. Tonite they say 13 agencies are investigating-mass hysteria my ASS!

As far as the off duty flight attendant being the one who made the threat, I heard that on FOX tonight. It made me wonder why would someone in that position do that? Very odd, trying to get time off, day off?? Well now he/she will have a lot of time off perhaps in jail.

Your plot is a good one, there is no question that we must be very alert for the G-8 meeting, and the worlds best navies just off shore, might help, but I'm not so sure of how.

These mixed signals are absolutely ridiculous and the retractions are absolutely political. The Dem moles, oops, career federal employees just wait for things like this to happen so they can leak it as a "dirty campaign trick".
Example: Homeland Security could have kept quite, Justice could have come back after the week and said our info was based on point A, point B, point C. We understand it's an inconvience but we want to keep our citizens safe, credible threats, etc.
Now, along with the statements and retractions, you have this infighting that was supposed to have stopped with homeland security.
