"These are not political criminals," he said. "These are people going around stealing Coca-Cola. People getting shot in the back of the head over a piece of pound cake and then we run out and we are outraged, [saying] 'The cops shouldn't have shot him.' What the hell was he doing with the pound cake in his hand?"
Bravo...I am glad Mr. Cosby has finally brought the truth to light....what a genius...
There, now the people who the statements were aimed at will understand what he's saying.
Finally someone called the Black politicians what they really are. A worthless bunch of unlce Toms.
Cosby was great. The NAACP has no choice but to now readdress these issues.
Nothing "nuanced" about your statements. Heck, even an education is not "owed" to anyone, regardless of race/economic status. Everyone in the US is free to persue an education and they are free to continue that persuit as far as they desire. We could increase the opportunities by getting the Fed's hands out of the education system.
The current inner city language is a pride point for certain individuals. These individuals consider it a victory over "the man" to communicate in a manner that "the man" doesn't understand. Instead of working hard to get ahead, their motivated to stick it to "the man". They get to live with the consequences of such decisions.

Barbara Streisand!
He sounds like my mom *lol*
Agreed! I guess I was/am in shock to see him actually speak these words.
Can't speak English--LOL, ole liberal Bill Cosby! Just you wait--the leftist Dems will usher in a system where blacks will have to speak SPANISH to get a job...
English isn't foreign to the people in question. They're not being expected to switch from one language to another. They're only expected to sharpen grammar and syntax.
gee...after 40, 50 years...Bill finally gets it.
MLK would probably steal Cosby's line, ha ha ha.
I don't think he was a true liberal before. If he was a liberal he would not have produced such a wholesome family show --- he wouldn't have had to show a downtrodden family and made it clear all their problems were due to race issues. Some of the daughters would have to have had abortions, Theo would have had to come out of the closet and bring his gay lover home to sleep with him. The Cosby show wasn't liberal in the least.
Speaking the truth to power ?
oh give me a break, just more "excusism" going on. They have had plenty of time to learn somewhat proper English. My father-in-law did not speak English until he was 21 years old. But when he came to this country from SOUTH AMERICA, he made a point to speak the language of his new country. And although he spoke with a thick accent he spoke proper English. quit givin' im da co p-out! Ghostkatz
A large percentage of the negros in my hood have taken to littering to add to their bad habits. So now you have filthy language, loud music with filthy language, pants half way down, dirty looks, and then they throw their trash right on the ground when there is a garbage can 20 feet away.
I agree. I find his attitude expressed by older people. Younger people today are tough to figure out. A lot of black people will speak their mind once they think they won't be attacked. I wish the republican party would reach out to black people more, but they aren't. I'm getting cynical about outreach anyway. People may say they want more black people in the republican party but not TOO many, because too many black people on board makes some nervous. It's easier to curryfavor to people like Vicente Fox than deal with black democrats and white republicans who don't want black people in their party.
a white man, not a black one, killed Cosby's son.

You're kidding!?
...and, in just a few short years, count on teens of all colors doing the same mf things.
