(ZOT?) Don't Bash Kerry for Paying his Respects to Reagan
06/08/04 | xm177e2

Posted on 06/08/2004 7:29:51 PM PDT by xm177e2

Quite a few FReepers have attacked John Kerry for visiting Reagan's coffin and paying his respects to the man. I think this is wrong.

If he hadn't paid his respects, the same people would be throwing a fit.

John Kerry did not wait in line: Neither did other dignitaries (aka "important people who are not celebrities"). Neither did Arnold Schwarzenegger. Do you think George W. Bush should wait in line? Please. That's pathetic. John Kerry is, by virtue of being the presidential candidate for a major political party, more important than the rest of us. Just like George W. Bush was more important than the rest of us while he was running for president in 2000. Get over it.

Kerry gave a "thumbs up" in his limo: someone cheered for him, so he responded with a thumbs up. It's a pretty sedate response. Get over it.

Kerry bragged about opposing Reagan's policies in the past: Well, yeah. John Kerry is a left-wing Democrat and Former President Reagan was a right-wing Republican. We live in a democracy and people are allowed to disagree about this sort of thing. Whether or not Kerry was right to disagree with Reagan (I don't think he was), we should still begrudge Kerry the right to disagree.

What are you talking about paying respects? It was face time so Bush would not have the whole week in face time. He is after the Reagan Democrats(which I was),and he won't get them, but is too freaking a dim bulb to get it. This was a low class stunt that even the most crass, tone deaf Clintonite would not attempt. He lied about his daughter's graduation being the reason to be out there. He knew he would look big next to everyday people who wanted to mourn their hero, and could not do so in Washington. In Washington,he will be overshadowed by people, and dignataries with real charisma, and importance. He was not invited, and claimed to have tried to reach Nancy. He slammed Reagan for 20 years, and recently on the campaign slammed him again. What part of this don't you get? Figure it out, two plus two equals 4.

Don't want to jump in on your little fight, but I believe it probably means Don't Ever Ping Me Again.

That way she doesn't have to answer you.

"I suppose there will be no photos of W delivering his eulogy either."

President Bush is the sitting president. It is tradition for the sitting president to deliver the eulogy of a deceased former president just as Clinton did for Nixon. So yes, there will be photos of the President delivering his eulogy.

What we saw photos of today, were of Kerry trying to exploit RR's death for political gain, pure and simple. The man is a phony and that you can't see it is ludicrious.

" As an RN, I see how awful Alzheimer's can be, and wouldnt wish it on anyone, not Reagan, not Bush, not anyone."

Agreed.

"So, lay off those of us who are paying respects in whatever way we can, but dont expect any monumental changes in our opinions of Reagan's presidential decisions. They are two different issues altogether."

Welcome to FR. RNinNC since June 4, 2004

Loved the way you stated that you are, "paying respects in whatever way you can."

What the heck does that mean?

Flag flying at half-mast?

Praying for Nancy?

That comment was just plain weird.

I admire your dedication as an RN. Perhaps in your spare time you could study a little more of recent history other than that fed to you by the media.

Other than that, there are other sites more fitting with your ideaology.

Again, how do we know the photographer with a camera is not a member of the Kerry traveling press pool? People here have claimed it is one of Kerry's minions. What proof do we have?

The photographer is Jeff Chiu (per credits attached to 2 pix taken from Kerry's left, inside, viewing the casket). Chiu is a freelance photographer from San Francisco who circulated (sold) these pix to AP.

Note from the following link:

REAGAN LIBRARY (REPOSE) RULES - HARD COPY (KERRY VIOLATES LETTER & SPIRT)

* Absolutely no photography will be allowed inside the Library.

---------------

Someone had to notify Chiu that Kerry would be there. Kerry's campaign said early this morning that Kerry would be viewing around 2:00. Now, why would the campaign have to release such info unless they wanted a photo-op. Also, Chiu's pix were on AP internet within 30 minutes of Kerry's visit.

1+1+1+1 = photo-op

"I think people were bashing Kerry because he kept people waiting for 20 minutes while he attacked President Bush. Hardly a decent way of paying his respects to the dead.

Exactly! Kerry showboated at the expense of Present Reagan, eventhough Kerry loathed all that he accomplished. He denied hundreds of the 'common men' the opportunity to pay their respects.

Arnold and Maria were invited by Nancy Reagan.

Nancy Reagan refused to take John Kerry's call.

President Bush is the President, after all. Hanoi John Kerry is only a low-life scum-sucking wannabe.
