Was Pelosi smiling?

I didn't notice. I was too fixated on her eyebrows that seemed to be so hgh on her face.

Or is it just too much plastic surgery?

That's my guess.

Thanks. Now I know to give anything produced by Mr. Dallek a miss.

Good decision. He's a regular on PBS with the usual LBJ/FDR hallelujah chorus (Haines Johnson, Doris Kearns-Goodwin, Michael Bechloss).

Isn't he awful? I think he's edging too far into the political, too.

Yes, Ted Steven's speech veered unnecessarily into the political. And what made it seem that way was the rapid, excited political way in which he spoke. At funerals you are supposed to speak slowly and dignified. Good that he was first and Hastert and Cheney saved it.

Nancy started to lay her head on the casket, then stopped herself.

I've gone to C-Span - went to the local CBS affiliate here on the Central Coast and they were talking about the Gaviota fire :-(

This is an AMERICA that the 'Rats don't want.

I just got home a few minutes ago and was listening to most of the proceedings from Andrews on the radio. Broke out in tears three or four times, had to pull off the road once.

At the top of the hour news report from ABC radio, the reader said he had seen something like 9 inaugurations, 4 state funerals, and various and sundry marches and protests, and he had NEVER seen such supportive crowds like this in Washington.

DUmbasses, cast your eyes on the Real America and tremble in fear.

No problem, I haven't had CNN on since the spring of 2002, when Arafat told Christiane Amanpour to treat him with more respect and then hung up on her. They could never top that, so I stopped watching them.

But at least they went out on a high note.

I hope not,the last verse of Francis Scott Keys'The Star-Spangled Banner we never hear:

Then conquer we must, when our cause is just, And this be our motto: "In God is our trust"; And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.

A very nice ceremony overall. I just wish there had been room to mention Jesus Christ in all that.

Yeah. T.S. Eliot??? Ronald Reagan would have hated that. That was the House chaplain, so Pelosi probably had something to do with that.

I doubt it. Fr. Coughlin is a Catholic priest who likely came up with this prayer on his own.

Eliot was an American poet. Nothing offensive in using a quote from him in a prayer.

You've got a bit of a burr about that prayer.

Have a problem with words from "Day by Day" used by the Senate chaplain?
