It's been asked several times on this thread whether Shrillery was present and I know I never saw her and have read every single post. Funny how the talking heads who usually fall all over themselves to bring up the Clintoons did not point out her presence or lack thereof. Why not??? Is she miffed like hubby that he will not be hogging TV time Friday? Usually she is wherever there is a camera.

It looks like they've finally squared up the casket upon the catafalque.

Good question. I watched all day today. And as far as I saw she was nowhere to be found.

I wouldn't mind renaming the planet Mars to "Reagan"... then future colonists can be known as "Reaganites"...

Have you noticed that since all of the DC suits have had their fill of face time, the late night/early morning DC viewers of President Reagan lying in state are no better dressed than us slobs from L.A.?

The suits don't have to wait in line for hours in humidity.

Interesting that he won't show the same respect for Reagan that he did for Kennedy.

Chris Matthews tonight flat out said he thought Reagan would be remembered as more controversial. I predict when Clinton goes Chris will be shocked to find out that Clinton is really considered controversial. To them up is down and down is up.

I think the bulk of America is apathetic about Clinton. The best he can hope for will be to go down in history as a big, fat zero of a President, the Millard Fillmore of the 20th Century. Reagan is more controversial, because he actually stood up for what he believed in and accomplished great things.
I remember during his second term there was no big public outcry for his impeachment. He and the Dems thought that meant he was safe. But what it really meant was the vast majority of the population didn't care whether he was impeached or not.

I love tidbits of info like this!

Me, too.

Speaking of "Hail to the Chief", did you notice this little tidbit? When the band played "Hail to the Chief" upon the casket's arrival at the library, they only played the first stanza, leaving out the lilting 2nd stanza. I felt a little let down that they didn't play the whole thing. The shortened version was played again upon his leaving the library.

But, when he arrived at Point Mugu, the long version was played, as it was at every subsequent point along the route to the capitol.

Does anyone know the protocol distinction between the long and short versions? Does it have to do with being on a "state" level at the library but on a "federal" level upon arriving at Point Mugu?

Note that the arrival times in California are east coast times...subtract 3 hours...it arrives at Point Mugu at 4:45 our time.

Any info on the route?
