Baroness Maggie Thatcher was first in line. She looked stunning.

I'm late to the thread, and couldn't see the procession live. I watched several changing of the guards last night, and many of the onlookers. I noted several ex-soldiers saluting, and a number of blacks---which, to hear the media tell it is impossible, because black people suffered under Reagan.

To me, the most touching thing was several families with small children, explaining to them who the great man inside that box was.

Yesterday's beautiful tributes, music, and ceremonial trappings can best be summed up by President Reagan's own words: "Not bad. Not bad at all."

I am looking forward to hear President Bush's eulogy tomorroe, for he...more than any President since Reagan...embodies the determination to do the right thing for this country.

I've been watching C-Span during Fox commercials today and I am absolutely astounded at the whack-job conspiracy theorists that are calling in.

I've never watched C-Span during these call in type of programs before so I don't know if this is standard or not but YOWSA!!!! Every nut case DUer must be calling in this am.

One guy said he was afraid that Bush was going to schedule another 911 type of terrorist attack on Friday during the memorial service. That way he could elevate himself to dictator of the US and impose marshall law blah blah blah!!!

Another black caller just said that Reagan was responsible for the introduction of crack cocaine in the "African American" community. Is this normal C-Span fare or has this just deteriorated to this level today and is this a good sign that the Dems are imploding?

I wouldn't mind renaming the planet Mars to "Reagan"... then future colonists can be known as "Reaganites"...
Great idea.

I'm not as Geezerish as you ;-) ~My only memory of JFK's passing (I was 3 or 4) is hearing those incessant drums all day, it seemed. You are right, though, these drums beat for an honorable man. That, plus the fact that RWR has died after a good, long life, and 'color TV!' give them two distinct auras.

Switching topics-I have to admit, it did my heart great good to see the likes of Daschle, hiterly, pelosi, etc FORCED to stand silently by and listen to words of great truth and compassion pounding into to rotunda and across the airwaves. Their vitriolic furor, barely masked, was simply nice to behold, for a change.

I am delighted that so many people who dispised Ronald Reagan had to listen to a great wave of truth. And will have to do it again, Friday. Good for the soul, good for our nation, and good for those who would re-write history in order to continue to lie they dwell within.

It is normal CSPAN fare. Two out of every three calls, and sometimes seven out of nine calls have the same negative mantra, no matter what the topic of the program.

For the record, CSPAN is having Mario Cuomo as a guest right now. He blames all of New York's troubles when he was Governor on Reagan. I guess CSPAN considers this to be "balance."

Have you noticed that since all of the DC suits have had their fill of face time, the late night/early morning DC viewers of President Reagan lying in state are no better dressed than us slobs from L.A.?

LOL! Thank you! I was wondering if anyone was going to bring that up. I was too chicken!!

I sensed that the posters wanted to get in the faces of non-Christians.

Not me.

I certainly hope no one is tempted to keep the name of the Lord Jesus Christ under wraps at my funeral. All my unbelieving relatives and friends will need to know why there's so much joy in the room.

Here's a little note about Clinton and Reagan, from WTOP.com

Metro Ridership Shatters Old Record
Updated: Thursday, Jun. 10, 2004 - 9:21 AM

WASHINGTON - With the funeral procession and public viewing of the casket of former President Ronald Reagan on Wednesday, ridership on Metro set a record with 850,636 people riding the rails. "We did not anticipate that it would be the new No. 1," Metro spokeswoman Lisa Farbstein says. "It was highest ridership in our 28 year history."

The record was set, even though federal workers had the option of liberal leave.

The previous all-time highest ridership day was President Bill Clinton's first inaugural on Jan. 20, 1993, when 811,257 people used the subway. Before that, the Million Man March on Oct. 16, 1995 had 804,146 people riding the rails.

Metro initially told WTOP that its buses 7,203 people to the Capitol Rotunda for the viewing overnight, but then corrected the figure. Farbstein says 1,760 customers took the buses from RFK Stadium to the Capitol and 1,841 returned to RFK.

Yours will likely be a sectarian funeral. You can have what you want.

Reagan did not want a sectarian funeral nor should a government-sponsored State Funeral be turned into one.

This morning at 3AM, a Capitol Police Officer told me that they were expecting 750,000 people to attempt to see President Reagan Lying in State; and that he expected the line to reach the White House today.

I don't know if he was yanking my chain or not but if this does happen it would be a fitting tribute to President Reagan.

My advice to anyone going down:Ride the Metro or park at Union Station- 24 hour parking and restrooms(max parking fee $16 for 24 hours), wear comfortable shoes, be prepared for mud if we get the expected severe thunderstorms this afternoon, get in line no later than 9PM tonight, bring a ziploc bag to protest the Lying in State palm card they are giving to everyone who leaves the Rotunda. If someone can freep mail me their email address I have scanned the aforementioned palm card, but I don't know how to post it. The Senate Republicans are giving away bottled water.

Good advice. Those that can't make it into the Rotunda, here is the motorcade route for after the funeral at National Cathedral.

Constitution Avenue, Rock Creek Parkway and Massachusetts Avenue will be closed Friday when a hearse transports Reagan's coffin from the Capitol at 10:30 a.m. to Washington National Cathedral.

CSPAN is showing a split screen with the Senate Republican Conference meeting in the Russell Building. It really is the Irish wake part of this funeral week. All those who have been making the rounds of TV shows this week just talking to each other.

All the Reagan stories one more time.

I can't imagine standing at attention for 5 hours.

They were changing the guard approximately every 20 minutes last night. In addition to relieving the guardsmen, I think it was to give more of them the opportunity to stand guard over Pres. Reagan lying in state.
