TWISTED: LA Times Poll Had Sample With 38% Democrats, 25% Republicans Tue Jun 15 2004 10:13:47 ET

Sen. John Kerry "has taken big lead," according "to an L.A. Times poll."

But the Times poll that showed Kerry "beating Bush by 7 points" has created a controversy over whether the poll's sample accurately reflects the population as whole, ROLL CALL reports on Tuesday.

"Not counting independents, the Times' results were calculated on a sample made up of 38 percent Democrats and 25 percent Republicans -- a huge and unheard-of margin," ROLL CALL claims.

"LA Times Poll"

If we take out the "A" and the "T" and the "M", we have the "LIES POLL."

Mere coincidence,.....I don't think so. I'm calling the Art Bell to reveal this conspiracy now!

So who has a REAL poll, one that reflects the mere 17%-19% admitted liberal population?

I bet the individual campaigns have the real numbers. These public polls are push or propaganda polls.

Very good point. Since the real split between D's and R's is almost identical, this would suggest that W has about a 6% lead. In fact it might be even more than that, since a higher percentage of Republicans support W than do Dems Kerry.

Hmmm. This can be viewed as positive for President Bush. If the sampling gave a 13% advantage of dems over conservatives, but only a 7% margin, the numbers ought to work out that in a fair sampling, Bush would be ahead. Someone with a better head for math and stats than I could work this out.....

That leaves 37% undeclared or "independent". How many of those are just ashamed to admit that they're democrats?

Yes he did. And he broke it down that day.

Looks like today's Rush is going to be a good one (If he's heard about this yet).

Someone needs to do a real poll now and contrast the results. If it comes out differently, the LAT is going to have a heck of a cred prob.

This is the letter I just e-mailed to the LA Slimes...

"Do you folks realize that you sampled 52% more Dems than GOPers? Of course you do. Do you really think that's fair, especially as your poll numbers are cited by so many in the media??? Just wondering... do you folks have an ounce of fairness in conducting these polls, and reporting these obviously misleading facts?"

I still miss that wonderful daily paper.

? The Her-Ex was the lib rag, as I recall. In the good old days (10+ years ago), the LA Times was like reading the WSJ.

I suppose I shouldn't do it, but whenever somebody calls me and asks if I would mind taking a short poll, I answer, "Yes, I would mind," and hang up.

I signed up for the national do not call program, and in recent months have been receiving very few courtesy calls.

As a matter of policy, even when I am called by a charity I support, I always say, "send me a letter." I never accept a courtesy call of any kind.

Evidently liberals have more time on their hands.

The LA Times IS a disgrace. I usually don't explain away Dubya's bad poll numbers like some here do, but this sampling is outright faulty and dishonest.

The problem is that we conservatives are hard at work and unavailable to answer the polling calls at home, while the liberals sit around gorging on their welfare-subsidized malt liquor and menthol cigarettes just WAITING for the phone to ring. The liberal media takes advantage of this fact in every poll.

I think that it's a bigger deal when you look at the percentage difference. Saying 13% (raw numbers) more were Dem, but in comparitive terms, if you tell anyone that they sampled 52% more, anyone can see the transparent bias.
