DOT, Delta Reach Settlement Regarding Discrimination Against Passengers
The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) today announced a consent order reflecting an agreement with Delta Air Lines regarding treatment of certain air travelers who are or were perceived to be of Arab, Middle Eastern or Southeast Asian descent and/or Muslim in the period following the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.
The order finds that Delta acted in a manner inconsistent with federal laws that prohibit discrimination and requires the carrier to provide civil rights training over the next two years to its pilots, flight attendants and passenger service agents at a total cost of no less than $900,000 in addition to that which Delta already provided since the Sept. 11 attacks. Delta is also ordered to cease and desist from future violations of federal anti-discrimination statutes. While Delta agreed to the settlement, the carrier denied violating the law.
United, American and Continental Airlines have reached similar settlements with the department.
Documents relating to the settlement with Delta may be obtained on the Internet at http://dms.dot.gov, docket number OST-2004-16943.
Can we assume that Delta is a prime target for Islamists, now that the government has properly prohibited them from protecting their customers?
Good news for the Mohammed Atta wannabees.
One presumes this does not extend to the screeners for El Al who've been doing this same thing to the n'th degree for three decades.
With all that experience, they know what they're doing.
They can tell a Muslim from an Italian guy with a tan.
Gezzie Pizzie! Islamics need to be profiled for the rest of the world's protection. Sh*t!
(Good to see you posting, though, blackbag.)
Guess which american airline flys to Athens this august...
I suppose we could see something similar to Munich, however, in which the terrorists isolate a group of victims and let it play out on the world stage. The Israelis are always a fine target for that; most of the West still regards them as a nuisance. I fear the second best target would be American athletes.
I have been watching the security buildup in the city for over TWO YEARS. Cameras everywhere, MP3 armed police on every corner, rapid response teams at the ready for any contingency, and radiation detectors online now. Though their hospitals are the typical socialized medicine fiascos. I feel a bit more confident about going there for the Olympics.
I don't know. I would bet not due to the massive effort and expense but there is always the nutcases. The DOT doing boneheaded BS like this does not help. I wonder how many are clinton leftovers like the head of this department.
remember this is the rectal orafice who put in the ABSURD standard for arming pilots when he had a hissy fit over congress allowing the armed pilots.
This after the fact insainity is as bad as the before the fact Policy/Rules that prevented the sharing of intel between CIA and the FBI
an excerpt from the 911 commission" We have allowed the intelligence community to evolve into a bureaucratic archipelago of baronies in the Defense Department, the CIA, and 95 other different intelligence units in our government. None of them talked to one another in the same computerized system. There was no systemic sharing. Some will recall the Phoenix memo and the fact that there were people in the FBI saying, "Hey, there are young Arabs learning to fly and they don't want to learn how to take off or land. Maybe we should look into them." It went nowhere. We had watch lists with 65,000 terrorists' names on them, created by a very sophisticated system in the State Department called Tip-Off. That existed before 9/11, but nobody in the FAA [Federal Aviation Administration] bothered to look at it. The FAA had 12 names on its no-fly list. The State Department had a guy on its list named Khalid Sheikh Mohammed. He was already under indictment for his role in planning the 1993 attack on the World Trade Center. The State Department issued him a visa."
FIRE LEON PATHETIC PANNETTA OR SUFFER!!!!!!!!!!!!!
