'German police foil attempted hijack' 11.17PM, Tue Jun 29 2004

German special forces are reported to have stormed a plane in Munich after three men attempted to hijack an Istanbul-bound flight.

The pilot was reportedly able to return the plane, which was carrying 150 passengers, to Munich airport.

A German television station said the pilot hit an alarm button after the plane, run by the company Free Bird, had been in the air for ten minutes.

It said none of the passengers were hurt when special forces overpowered the three kidnappers.

One of the would-be hijackers is said to have jumped from the plane onto the tarmac.

"Free Bird?" Sounds like a charter, perhaps?

Regardless, pretty scary.

I hope the German police shot and killed the hijackers, but that wouldn't be PC. They'll probably be released after a few years in prison.

Probably a good time to go on full alert - there may be other attempts happening simulataneously.

That is correct.

I do believe we've just witnessed an attempted (and thankfully aborted) 9-11-style assassination!

Hat's off to the German Special Forces! Gut! Sehr gut, mein herren!

If any Islamazoids think they could have taken a hijacked aircraft within 100 miles of a US President in Istanbul, they're total idiots.

Then again, most of those guys are total idiots, so that might have actually been their plan...
