FBI urges vigilance for July 4

WASHINGTON (AP) -- A constant stream of intelligence indicating that al Qaeda wants to strike the United States this summer or fall has led federal officials to urge increased vigilance during the Independence Day weekend, but there is no specific threat of an attack timed to the holiday.

Re-using cans for coins. Twist off caps.

I does not take much effort to re-use any can, if I saw a large juice or other type can sitting in an odd place, I would leave and make it quick.

My brother was bragging about his NEW can opener, it cuts the top off, from the side and leaves a clean edge.

My friend Mary, had from the 1920's a can opener that worked
the same way, it took the top rim off the can.

Mary also had a home can canning machine of that era, that would seal a can.

She would cut the bottom off, reseal the empty can, cut a hole / slit in the bottom.

We then had a piggy bank that set on the shelf with the canned foods, and we put our coins in it. Mine is a Hunt's Peach can with the painted on label.

I have not tried doing it, it was her surprise for me, but she was still making the cans at 80 years old.

Imagine how easy it is to put explosives in the can.

Today, with the new can openers, there is no limit.

Hello. I thought I would check in here and see what information you guys have. Every time I have thought to read this thread, it has been huge and I figured I would be way behind on what's going on.

I will check in from time to time and will relay anything interesting I have heard from my locale (central Indiana). Thanks for your work!

Quite some time ago (can't remember which TM tread), someone dug up a warning to muslims to leave NYC, DC, and a few other cities because of a coming attack. The attack never materialized, but jerseygirl and freeperfromnj (and others) started watching for muslims fleeing cities and other such odd behavior. I would still be watching for large numbers of muslims leaving cities.

You just summarized the origin of the TM Thread. I'm not sure if that was your intent, but for the newbies who don't want to read through 60,000 posts or so (give or take a few thousand), that's one of the events that prompted the TM. The guy who disappeared was the very Yemeni looking "fruit guy" who sells fruit from a cart outside of Madison Square Garden/Penn Station in NYC (the site of the GOP Convention). He disappeared at just about the time of the Jihadist warning last October to fellow towelheads to leave NYC, DC, and LAX.

This story is troubling -- especially coming on the heels of the story ont the ME fishermen conducting surveillance of the Yankee nuke plant.

I heard about the ME "fisherman" (who didn't have any fishing equipment)looking for the nuke plant in New Jersey, but this is the first I've heard of a similar incident at the Yankee facility in Vermont. For what its worth, I've been told by an aquaintance that the Indian Point Nuclear Plant is in near lock-down mode.

Let's hope the new authorities lifts it then.

Now that I have caught up on my reading, I can go fishing with a clear head and clean conscience. Stay safe everyone. See you tonight.

My next door neighbor has one of those. I borrowed it once when I couldn't find my can opener.

I couldn't for the life of me figure out how the darn thing worked.

I can't believe I'm still here. Trout are running good in the Catskill Mountains and the tailwaters for the NYC resevoirs where the water temps are still in the 50's and 60's. Water temps are too warm in a lot of the freestone creeks. Today, I'm targeting small mouth bass on a fly rod. Now I'm going -- this time for real -- or should I say reel or creel.

My 4 year old caught his first bass last week!

Barely legal size, we let it go; but you should have seen his face!

I haven't been to the Catskills in years. Love it up there.
