neverdem,
I found out about this thread because the article was posted on an ADD list I'm a member of. But I've known of "Free Republic" for ages. Just never joined.
I'm an electrical engineer.
I'll have patience with the folks here. I know that the proliferation of "disorders" is sometimes a scam to make more victims and increase the size of the gov. Like the "crazy leg syndrome" or "sudden wealth syndrome". I know that it's not always irrational to get sick and tired of hearing about yet another excuse to coddle people who want others to pick up their slack.
But ADD has been around long enough, and has enough real science behind it to give pause to those who want their opinions to be fair and balanced.
So please, people, if you don't *know* something is fake, hold off on the ridicule until you find out more. As Oliver Cromwell said:
"I beseech you, in the bowels of Christ, think it *possible* that you might be mistaken!". :-)
From your comments, I don't believe you appreciate how I think about this relatively new diagnosis for adults.
While evidence accumulates that it is a real psychological disorder in a subset of the population, I believe it is being overdiagnosed, especially in young males, on normal behavioral traits. This has profound implications on their future right of self defense, ability to enjoy hunting and shooting sports as well as career opportunities.
