Woman's Dying Wish: Bush Defeated

Loved Ones Asked To Donate To Democratic Cause

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. -- A South Florida woman who died this week had an unusual last request. Instead of flower or contributions in her name to a charity, she asked those who loved her to try to make sure President George W. Bush is not re-elected.

Loved ones said that Joan Abbey was committed to her political passions, even in death.

Abbey was born in Montreal, but lived for many years in Miami Beach and Aventura. Family and friends came from as far away as Canada and California to remember Abbey at the Mount Nebo Jewish Cemetery in Miami.

Abbey, who was a lifelong Democrat, died Monday -- coincidentally on the first day of the Democratic National Convention.

Her sister, Tillie Shapiro, said, "She was just a caring person … She cared about people, and people who were disadvantaged."

Abbey was buried the day after the Democratic convention ended. Her unusual death notice in the Miami Herald said: "You can honor Joan's values by voting against George Bush and contributing to a liberal or Democratic cause."

Abbey's nephew, Martin Shapiro, said, "What she cared most about was improving circumstances in this country... getting rid of George Bush and making this a better country for all people."

Coincidentally, the presiding rabbi, Brett Goldstein, is a registered Democrat but is voting for Bush, and he questioned the timing of Abbey's message at such a sensitive time.

"My contention is that if there's any situation that's sacrosanct, it should be devoid of political ramifications," Goldstein said. "Although people have the opportunity and they can do it if they want to, it is not really appropriate at this time."

Shapiro said, "It was her (Abbey's) essence. It was her core value to try to see this country become a better place and become a more just society. And I think that was the last word she'd want to leave."

Abbey did not want her age known. Many friends said she remained forever young in spirit and staunchly committed to her beliefs.

Had she hung on and died on Nov. 3, the story would have been that it was Bush's re-election victory that killed her.

LOL-LOL-LOL!
Good one!

Liberal "caring" is a attitude intends to make the liberal feel good about herself and look good to fellow liberals. It's not about being good.

....or making others bear the burden while keeping one's hands clean. Try opening a soup kitchen in one of their neighborhoods and you'll see the true compassion of a liberal in play.

Her sister, Tillie Shapiro, said, "She was just a caring person … She cared about people, and people who were disadvantaged."

But only if they are Democrats, no doubt.

Much like the little "timeout" girl who spoke at the convention. When asked if Teresa Heinz-Kerry deserved a timeout for telling a reporter to shove it, she admitted saying "shove it" was also bad but she said she disagreed with the timeout, because Heinz-Kerry is a Democrat.

Big Deal! The day the Florida supreme court tried to give the election to Gore, I ended up in the hospital with a suspected heart attack (fortunately, it was not). Not only did the good Lord grant my prayer of nullifying that ruling, but he kept me alive to witness it. In summary, my God can smite this lady's wishful ass any day of the week, with His almighty right hand tied behind His back.

"A contribution to George W. Bush is being made today (by me) with the notation:

In memory of Joan Abbey

That's a great idea. I'm voting for Peroutka.....but I think I'll send Bush a contribution in her name just for the fun of it.

Because this dead lady is a sad case if her dying wish is about politics.

Just about says it all. Could have wished that more people would come to Jesus Christ and avoid hell. Could have wished that more starving children find some way to get food and a means to feed themselves. Could have wished for people with awful illnesses would get well. Could have wished for an end to the Iraq war and that all personnel come home safely. She is definitely in Satan's column if her last wish was truly about politics of any kind.

I really don't have a final wish about Democrats OR Republicans, but about people's souls. Unbelievable. Has to have been made up.

You got that right. They don't want undesireables in THEIR neighborhood. Of course, if you oppose a soup kitchen in YOUR neighborhood, you are a cold-hearted, probably racist, blankety-blank. Liberalism is a combination of rationalized misbehavior, moral grandstanding, and, in some cases, the lust for control and power under the guise of "helping" others.

I really don't agree.....who will lead this country is VERY important, and if I were on my death bed, besides my faith/family/friends, it would be the next thing I'd be concerned about. I've told my husband when I die, PATRIOTIC music is to be played at my FUNERAL....and YES, there will be a funeral to make people go to CHURCH!

I saw him around that same time also. Maybe on the special you are talking about.

He also said Bush was going to win.

I know it's kinda stupid to cling on to something like this, but the guy just doesn't get too many things wrong. Hey, if he said Bush will win a landslide, who am I to argue!

I won't argue it either! He certainly was firm about it!

It was weird how he said Dean wouldn't get the nomination, when it looked like there was no stopping him.

I had forgotten all about it until you mentioned it.

Yes, Joan, put a Dim back in the White House who will probably pressure Israel to tear down the wall and allow Pali's to resume their mindless massacre of Israeli civilians!

May Joan Abbey experience, in the afterlife, exactly the kind of world she worked so hard for during life. An afterlife where there are no reasoned conservative voices challenging any leftist idea, no matter how lunatic it is. An afterlife where those who think they know what is best for everyone else are completely unopposed in their effort to impose their vision of what's good for people.

Amazing. Their hate goes with them to the grave. Sick people. If I was dying I would be worried about my family, not an election.

Works for me.
