OMG... he didn't die, just got sick! Easy there WCG!
At The Copa, Copa Cabana la la la. lol
BURY MANILOW
Dale Jr. Quotes: I owe this finish to my team - Tony (Eury) Jr. and Tony (Eury) Sr. - those guys gave me a good car and they made great calls on the pit stops. Our strategy was perfect and I need to thank the Bud crew for all of their work and all of their help. Y'all were awesome. The car was OK - not great, not bad. It actually started off as a good car but we lost our way somewhere there in the middle of the race. I asked for a little more than I could handle on adjustments, and the car got away from us a little and we got behind eight ball. We worked hard. We just tried to dig and keep what we could keep and do what we could do. We gained some ground on the guys ahead of us in the points, so it was a good day.
I'm happy for Ron (Fellows, DEI teammate). He's a legend in road racing, and a great guy. You know, I owe a lot to him and Boris Said and Andy Pilgrim for helping me with my road racing skills in the last four or five years. They're all great guys and it's a privilege to know 'em. I guess I was more proud of last year's finish here (a third-place after leading 11 laps) than my run today, but I'll take it. I have a lot more to learn though. I watched Ron go past me late in the race and I said 'why can't I get my car to do that too?' He really can get around this place.
Best Radio Chatter:
Dale Jr. restarted the race behind points leader Jimmie Johnson on lap 8, and nearly crashed into the back of Johnson's car on the front stretch. The incident would eventually lead to Johnson's withdrawal from the race with transmission troubles. Dale Jr: Whoa man. Jimmie must have gone from first (gear) to second and then back to first instead of third there. I almost got into him. (note from WCG that is exactly what happened)
The middle laps of the race found an impatient and hard-charging Dale Jr. held back by another young driver. Dale Jr: I'm not puttin' up with that boy's (stuff) today! He does that every time I try to pass. He just cuts me off! I'm tryin' hard not to turn him around, but I'm tellin' ya I may have to soon if he doesn't stop." Tony Eury Jr. (car chief): Just cool down a bit. Just hit your marks and you'll be OK. He was slowing you down by a second a lap there, so just run your race and we'll just worry about ourselves here.
Before the final restart of the race: Tony Jr.: OK, Hot Rod. There'll be 15 laps to go when we go green. Keep doin' what you're doin - you're doin' great. A few laps later as Dale Jr. climbs to fifth position: Tony Jr: You're doin' good. 11 to go. Keep doin' what you're doin. Dale Jr.: (trying to concentrate) OK! Keep quiet!

And the winner was......
Thanks for the ping and the interview report.
I thought jr. had a shot today but was dissapointed with his finish. It seems it's always the car. Hope he does well next week. He got a break on the points today!
Stewart doesn't know Q-U-I-T. Ask the Grand American Road Racing Association at the Rolex 24 when he took a prototype with a broken suspension and tried feverishly for 40 minutes to nurse the car, only to crash it in the last 20 minutes of a 24-hour race. He also took advantage of the rain Friday by entering a GARRA sportscar event Friday evening and took track time, albeit in a faster sportscar, which was enough rhythm which had him racing an extra day.
So while the Cup drivers were moaning about a lost day, Smoke was in a sportscar on the same track, just pounding away lap after lap, and grabbing the extra advantage. Add that Danny Lasoski's Knoxville Nationals and it was for Tony a nice weekend.
He earned that win, for sure, that car was dialed in and he wasn't afraid of pushing it to the edge. His doctor done him good on that stop early on too.
I've seen some footage of his younger days and he , like Crash and Matt, seems able to get the most out of what they got under 'em where a lot of others fail.
Thanks for the ping. Gees, I just got up. Rough night last night singing Karaoké. |
Oh My.. the top of the pile folks came back to the rest of the league today,
I spoke too soon..Actually they all averaged about 300 points anyway.. dang..
Are you that Wheels of Cheddar fella?
It got skewed down a bit by the former leader not updating for the missing Said and Pruett (and it's only 287 without him). Still, you closed up nicely on the top 5 for the year and took the 2nd-half lead.
And that would be me with that fresh set of cheese. Maybe you, WSG and me can form a train in about a week or two.
Oh yeah,, drafting is still legal yaknow..;-)
Can you say "Drafting Train"? ;-)
I'll be curious to see how the Top 10 thingy effects the FL outcome ...
Shouldn't affect it in the least (NA$CAR points don't matter, and our points aren't reset).
I see some of the fire and drive of old man Earnhardt in Smoke. That's why I like him. Tony earned his win yesterday.
ummm....Drafting Train ;-P
The drafting train has left the station. Whoo Whoo (insert sound from Wrangler commercial)
Norm, don't forget I'm in that RED DEI Brewmobile.
*******
Note on drafting from the master and Winston Cup Champ Earnhardt Sr......
Earnhardt can actually see the air when he is behind the wheel of his race car, which allows him to find the slipstream of air and utilize the draft. "Everybody else talks about me seeing the air," Earnhardt says. "I'm really not proposed to saying I can see the air, but I do understand the draft, and I do understand what the cars are doing in the air."
"I've heard some drivers saying, We're going too fast at Charlotte. We're going too fast at Daytona.' Get the hell home. If you're not a race car driver or a racer, stay home. Don't come here and grumble about going too fast."
More Crew Changes at the #8: Dale Earnhardt Inc. is still hoping to upgrade its over-the-wall crew on Dale Earnhardt Jr.'s #8 Budwesier Chevrolet. Greg Burkhart, currently the rear tire changer on the #10 Valvoine team, will join the #8 car at Bristol. Jay Guarneri holds the position, but DEI wants to see how Burkhart works with the team.(FoxSports/Sporting News)(8-16-2004)
Is it definite that Jeff Burton is going to RCR? (starting next race)
Yes, he will start the #30 car at Michigan next Sunday for RCR.
Carl Edwards will drive the vacated #99 for Rousch.
And Blaney is out of a job temporarily. ;-(
