GMA Liberal Love-In: Gibson & Stephanopolous Declare Swift Boat Issue Turning in Kerry's Favor
Good Morning America - ABC

Posted on 08/25/2004 4:38:11 AM PDT by governsleastgovernsbest

Have I been monitoring the wrong morning news show?

All these months I've been tracking liberal bias at The Today Show. But now that the Olympics have largely displaced hard news from Today and sent me spinning the dial to the other networks, I've come across Good Morning America.

And to judge from this morning's episode, their liberalism might make Today look positively moderate (well, let's say less Leninist) in comparison.

Did you know that the Swift Boat issue is "starting to turn" in Kerry's favor? You would if you watched the love-in between Charlie Gibson and 'news analyst' George Stephanopolous.

Yes, enthused George breathlessly, "a major news story broke overnight." What is this earth-shattering piece of evidence? That an OUTSIDE lawyer giving advice to the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth also advises the Bush campaign.

Think about this. ABC is claiming that people who use the same private-sector lawyer should be assumed to be conspiring with each other. Guess that's why Michael Jackson got rid of Mark Geragos - people would have assumed that Jackson had something to do with Laci Peterson's murder since Geragos was also representing Scott Peterson.

Stephie proclaimed this "major news story" to be a huge "piece of ammunition" for the Kerry folks. Gibson was clucking his approval and agreement, and one of them opined (i.e, expressed the fervent wish) that "people will get very angry if they learn the Bush campaign was behind this."

Of course GMA does have its reputation as objective journalists to uphold. So to balance things, they showed a clip of . . . John Kerry whining that "this is so petty it's becoming pathetic." And Stephie mentioned that the Kerry campaign is sending former Sen. Max Cleland to Crawford, Texas to hand Pres. Bush a letter asking him to demand ads be stopped. Normally the networks are very careful not to show Cleland's injuries, but here they seemed to have gone out of their to run footage of him in a wheelchair in such a way as to reveal his missing legs. "Take that, Bush!" seemed the message.

Then it was on to a response from the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth. Made you look! You didn't really think they'd have anyone from the other side, did you?

What does the law say? What constitutes illegal collusion?

Poor pitiful John Kerry. I'd expect that the whole Swift Boat issue was anticipated by their campaigners. They knew this stuff would come up (O'Neal has been around) and all Kerry talked about for months was Vietnam. So the dems figured they'd use the issue to make John Kerry "the victim". The whole Democratic party loves "a victim". Remember poor Bill Clinton? Those mean nasty right-wingers were beating up on him. Now we have poor John Kerry, the victim of Republican "attack ads". And of coruse the media being a bunch of frustrated fiction writers all love Dickens and Dickensian characters. The Democrats being the party of "victims" comply and parade a bunch of poor pittiful characters in front of the camera. Let's see can we name all the victims... Didn't the Clinton's highlight some woman who lost her health isurance. And Al Gore had a "can woman"? Of course Max Cleland is the current victim of evil Republicans. Any more?

Also, on H & C last night, Colmes addressed a transcript in which O'Neill supposedly tells Nixon he was in Cambodia. O'Neill replied that he was not in Cambodia and the next line in the transcript says that he was not. Anyone know what that is all about?

I have all these news guys' posters on my bedroom wall, blank side facing out.

Maybe, if we ever defeat this enemy, there will again be a place for Bobbby Sherman and David Cassidy.

Let's not forget the all-time greatest poster!

As opposed to sending Cleland there to kick the president's a**.

Collusion is when two or more persons have a meeting of the minds with the goal of somehow pissing me off.

This was posted on the swiftvets.com web site. I thought it was a great idea..

"Vets at VA hospitals often have limited reading materials, a wonderful gift is to donate your Unfit for Command to you local VA medical center and state run veterans homes so that our fellow brothers and heros will know more about John Kerry before the November election. "

In related news to your comment (and let's all give a big 'eww' on that one!), GMA followed the Swift Boat segment with a piece on what ABC apparently hopes will be a growing rift between Dick Cheney and W over the gay marriage issue

I saw that. Textbook liberal media trying to gin up dissent where there isn't any. Claire Shipman was pathetic tryiung to gin it up.

BTW, how come no ping list?

Doesn't this gimmicky, high schoolish photo-shopping visit to Bush's home, make Cleland look like a dirty trickster? Imagine what would happen if Republicans showed up at all of Teresa's palatial doorsteps demanding to present Kerry with a list of his sentate votes against the military and the CIA?

This kind of desperation politics would normally be condemned by elected officials, on either side of the aisle, let's see how the media reports it.

I can't wait to see how Bush handles this. Cleland isn't going alone..Rassman (sp) is going with him. This is a Secret Service call at the ranch gate, isn't it? You know Cleland will bring his cameras and reporters, you know the traveling White House press corps will report every detail.

but will the media report how dangerous a precedent this sets, how much it impacts the Secret Service. Has the Kerry campaign even considered how this will encourage copy cat protestors to invade the Bush ranch.

this is reckless, this is dangerous, this is incredibly bad judgement by John F. Kerry, the man who wants to run our country.

Thanks for pointing out the lack of a ping list. I actually thought I had pinged it, but when I went back I see that I only succeeded in pinging it . . . to myself! Mistake now corrected.

And yes, wasn't Claire Shipman playing the good little liberal soldier, trying to pick a fight between Dick Cheney and W?

There certainly is. Even when the MSM think they're helping Kerry by claiming the story has turned, they're still keeping it on the front burner and reminding people about it. Every minute spent discussing the issue is one minute keeping Kerry on the defensive.

Yep and the usual handwringing "concern" by Gibson over how this will affect the convention, yada, yada, yada.

VP Cheney hasn't stated anything different and supports the President's actions in making sure that gay marriage isn't shoved down the nation's throat by unelected judicial edict.

Good one!

"We have totally defeated the Swift Boat Veterans. Go to the airport! You will see! We are in control! The Swift Boat Veterans are fleeing for their lives! We will utterly annihilate them! Pay no attention to the sagging opinion polls standing behind my right shoulder. We will obliterate them!"

The alphabets have not been intersted in this story until they could spin it Kerry's way, so I am not surprised if this story DOES begin to benefit Kerry. Let's face it Bush has the fight of his life on his hands, and if he wins this election, it will be a true miracle.
