You're going to EXACTLY CENTER the top line (in proportional font in Capital letters on a very expensive typesetting machine of a memo you're writing to yourself that nobody else will ever see!) and then you're going to "carriage return" and go to the second line of that memo, EXACTLY CENTER IT and then backspace up the EXACT NUMBER of "points" (calculating those "points" in your proportional fonts (before there were calculators even!) to start the second line, then "carefully" space the entire second line to EXACTLY CENTER IT below the first, then carriage return to the third line of your header, and count the letters in the third line of your header, and c-a-r-e-f-u-l-l-y calculate the starting points in "points" for the third line to EXACTLY MATCH the center of the first and second lines, and EXACTLY back up to the EXACCT place to start typing the third line of your "header"

I could center on a typewriter, just like I can center manually on my computer.

You probably can, but the law of probability says that you aren't going to get three consecutive lines of texts exactly centered around a single axis line and the law of common sense says that you aren't going to take the time to try.

Word processors center based on a completely different concept than typewriters. With the typewriter you find the center point, approximate the space you need, and begin at a fixed distance from the left, hoping that you got it right.

With a word processor you hit the center button and it mathematically realigns the orientation of your cursor around a central axis instead of the left margin. Everything you type from there on out is then oriented and adjusted around that center, so three lines in succession will always line up perfectly.

At least one the President's previously released documents looks nothing like these, and is of the normal typewriter (monolithic font). There was no symmetry, or centering attempted. The signature on this document varies considerably from the "MEMO-GATE" documents.

Brit showed a partial of one of the President's documents tonight. It appeared exactly as one posted here on FR today, and NOTHING like the "Memo-Gate" docs.
