[Killian] WIDOW TO APPEAR ON 'NIGHTLINE'... Live Thread
Drudge Report ^ | September 9, 2004

XXXXX DRUDGE REPORT XXXXX THU SEPT 09, 2004 22:45:32 ET XXXXX

Marjorie Connell — widow of the late Lt. Col. Jerry Killian, the reported author of memos suggesting that Bush did not meet the standards for the Texas Air National Guard — questions whether the documents are real on tonight's NIGHTLINE, sources tell DRUDGE.

Transcript:

I WAS ANGRY, BECAUSE HERE THEY ARE GOING BACK AND PULLING RECORDS OF A MAN WHO IS DECEASED TWENTY YEARS, WHO IS NOT HERE TO EXPLAIN WHAT ANY OF THESE DOCUMENTS SAID OR SUPPOSED TO HAVE SAID, AND I JUST FOUND IT APPALLING. I WAS SICK THAT HERE WITHOUT WARNING HIS PICTURES ARE UP THERE, HIS NAME IS BEING BATTLED BACK AND FORTH AND I, LIVID I GUESS IS A BETTER WORD FOR IT."

"I THINK THERE WAS SO MUCH UNTRUTHS BEING SAID THAT THAT FRUSTRATED ME AND THAT I KNEW THAT IF JERRY WERE ALIVE TODAY THAT HE WOULD JUST, NUMBER ONE HE WOULD BE TURNING OVER IN HIS GRAVE TO KNOW THAT A DOCUMENT SUCH AS THIS WOULD BE USED AGAINST A FELLOW GUARDSMAN."

"THAT IS WHAT AGGRAVATED ME SO MUCH, WAS THAT HE CAN NOT BE HERE TO SAY AND YET THEY CAN DRAG HIS NAME ONTO TELEVISION, MAKING BAD ACCUSATIONS ABOUT OUR PRESIDENT AND A MAN THAT HE RESPECTED AND I KNOW FOR A FACT THAT HE THOUGHT THIS YOUNG MAN AS A SECOND LIEUTENANT OR FIRST LIEUTENANT WAS AN EXCELLENT AVIATOR, AN EXCELLENT PERSON TO BE IN THE GUARD AND WAS VERY HAPPY TO HAVE HIM BECOME A MEMBER OF THE 111TH F-I-S."

"NUMBER ONE, HE WOULD NOT HAVE TYPED BECAUSE HE DID NOT TYPE. NUMBER TWO, THE WORDING IN THESE DOCUMENTS IS VERY SUSPECT TO ME. I JUST DON'T BELIEVE THAT, IT LOOKS LIKE SOME THINGS MAY HAVE BEEN PICKED UP OUT OF A DOCUMENT AND THEN OTHER THINGS JUST MADE FICTITIOUSLY TO FILL IN THINGS, TO MAKE THEM FLOW. I JUST CAN'T BELIEVE THAT THIS IS HIS WORDS, MY LATE HUSBAND'S WORDS."

"NOT A TYPIST, DEFINITELY NOT A TYPIST. WE HAD NO COMPUTERS AT HOME BUT HE WASN'T A TYPIST, AND WHAT IS REMARKABLE TO ME IS THAT HE WAS A PERSON WHO DID NOT TAKE OR MAKE COPIOUS NOTES. HE CARRIED EVERYTHING IN HIS MIND AND HE DIDN'T HAVE TIME TO MAKE NOTES."

"I AM STILL PRESENTLY LOOKING FOR OTHER DOCUMENTS. I HAVE FOUND SOME THAT SAY THE 147TH ON THEM AND THEY GO BACK TO 1970. I CAN NOT FIND ANY AT THIS MOMENT THAT HAVE ANY 1972 INDICATIONS ON THEM OTHER THAN A, AND I TOLD HER THAT, A FLIGHT SCHEDULE THAT HE HAD JUST SIGNED HIS NAME TO."

"UNFORTUNATELY WHEN WE MOVED I PUT THINGS IN DIFFERENT LOCATIONS AND I JUST DON'T KNOW WHERE EVERYTHING IS AT THIS MOMENT AND I WAS SEARCHING FOR THEM AND I STILL HAVE NOT FOUND ANY OTHER DOCUMENTS. I DO HAVE ALL OF HIS FLIGHT RECORDS THOUGH AND THEY ARE IN MY HANDS."

"HE DISCUSSED WITH ME HOW PROUD HE WAS TO BE ABLE TO GO AND PIN THE WINGS ON YOUNG GEORGE AND TO MEET THEN MR. BUSH, I'VE FORGOTTEN IF HE WAS WITH THE CIA OR WHAT OFFICE HE HELD AT THAT TIME AND BARBARA BUSH."

"HE LEFT THE 147TH, FLEW TO WHEREVER GEORGE GOT HIS WINGS AND JERRY PINNED THEM ON HIM AND HE WAS, CAME HOME JUST, HE TOLD ME ABOUT THAT AND HOW PROUD HE WAS TO HAVE MET THE FAMILY."

"HE WOULD JUST WRITE LITTLE NOTES ON THE BACK OF ANYTHING. UNFORTUNATELY OR FORTUNATELY AS THE CASE MAY BE, IF HE NEEDED TO JOT SOMETHING DOWN HE WOULD JOT IT ON ANY PAPER THAT HE COULD FIND, ON A CARD, LIKE A CALLING CARD THAT YOU WOULD HAVE, OR JUST LITTLE BITS OF PAPER. HE ALWAYS KNEW WHERE EVERYTHING WAS, AND IF HE NEEDED TO PULL IT OUT OF HIS WALLET ON A LITTLE NOTE OR SOMETHING, BUT HE JUST DIDN'T TAKE MANY NOTES."

The Washington Post reports that CBS called Gen. Hodges, and read him the memos. Gen. Hodges said that the memos reflect what Col. Killian was saying about Bush in '72-'73.

Which we all know is a lie given what Killian's widow said on Nightline tonight about her deceased husband's opinion of George Bush. The documents are forgeries. General Hodges is a liar. Dan Rather is a tool of the Kerry campaign. The Washington Post needs to do deeper research. Ted Koppel wears a rug.

Yes, I see. Still, I'd feel better if Gen. Hodges would just come out and deny the Post story. Maybe he'll do that tomorrow.

Thank you for responding.

I agree that would be helpful, but I don't think it's going to happen. CBS was stupid to run the story, but I don't think they're stupid enough to fabricate quotes from their authenticity "trump card".

Besides, I don't think it really matters now that the documents have been proven to be forgeries.

Nightline just interviewed Killian's mother and son, who said the docs were forged, then they said their own experts believe they were forged... and that was the end of the segment. I started a life Left Coast thread.

I've said that Barr has been compromised

I think Barr has a book out? If so - obviously, let it sit on the shelves.

I do wonder that there are almost 400 messages on this topic. People have GOT to get over this fetish with the LM. They just want to see the ABB elected. And everyone sees that, now. They don't matter. And yet there are 400 messages worrying about what some old alphab is going to do, or not going to do.

People HAVE GOTTT to get over this.

Looks like you covered it all, except Lehane is nauseating, slimy as well.

Not very investigative from all powerful ABC. They're too caught up with themselves. To cast aspersions on fellow MSM CBS would include them with all the other MSM. They have outlived their usefulness.

The ABCNews.com story on this was much more devastating than the Nightline report. Methinks Koppel toned down his own network's report on this.

I don't know where these documents came from, but I'd feel better if Gen. Hodges and any other living associates of Col. Killian would come out and deny that those memos reflect Col. Killian's statements and state that CBS didn't contact them. I'd really appreciate it if someone could convince me that I shouldn't worry about the Post and CBS statements.

Don't worry. Killian's personnel chief said he thought the documents were fake. And by CBS's own admission, Hodges never saw the documents; they were read to him over the phone. Not to mention Killian's wife and son saying they thought the documents were fake. Pretty devastating for CBS.

You know what was funny was all the stories leading up to this talking about how hard Dan was pushing this story.

He wanted this one bad, and if it results in a black eye for CBS, the suits are going to want him to pay. He's old and on his way out anyway.

Expect him to be resigning shortly after the election.

Since most Americans get their news from them, what the MSM media says *does* matter, as they dictate how the average American hears the news.

I've got no doubt that guys like Koppell, Jennings and Brokaw would love to see Rather take a kick in the pants over this.

But they don't want to get nailed in the same way when they run their bogus anti-bush stories.

The only network that will take this to the wall is FoxNews.

A bit superficial eh? LOL. Maybe they should hire me. I like to ask and pose more questions. I might help up their ratings. Just a Walter Mitty moment. :)

Sorry, Ms. Spelling. You're on your own now.

This is all working to Bush's favor though and for that alone, it's a GOOD THING! This is mainstream media trying to bash Bush and ending up with egg all over their faces. This story will have reached most voters by now. I call for an immediate boycott of CBS until they retract and correct this story on prime time tv. An apology to Bush would be nice too, but I'm not holding my breath.

The last few Montecristos I had were all side-burners. I am Partial to Padrons, and really like the Anniversario serie 26, specially in the Maduro wrapper. Its just that at 35 to 40 bucks a stick they are not easy on the wallet. Last time I looked everyone was sold out. Guess I'll look again. Maybe if I can find one I'll smoke the 64 for my birthday in a couple weeks, and save the 26 for the election.
